Post Disappearing

Postby heracles » Tue Jan 29, 2013 1:18 am

I just replied to a post. It said it had posted successfully and went back to the thread where I saw that it had. Then I went to "Home" again, and that thread showed "0" replies. My reply had just disappeared.

Actually this also happened a previous time, and I thought it a moderator had deleted it because it was insensitive or something. But since the one above happened so quickly, it seems like it may be a glitch in the system. If so, just letting you know. My reply was pretty brief, so it was no huge loss, but when you spend a fair amount of time trying to make a thoughtful and helpful reply to somebody in need of advice and it just disappears, that can be a little annoying.

Oops. It's back again. I have no idea what's going on. Ignore me.

That sounds a bit random. I'm glad it came back again. I wonder what happened there.

Mods don't ever delete posts entirely as if they never existed. If it was particularly insensitive or something, the most we would do would be to edit the content of the post, so you should always still see that you did make a reply.

Ok, fair enough. I suppose sometimes I've maybe deleted the occasional post of my own to keep notices tidy maybe and maybe if they are like advertising or putting porn up or something. But most of the time, if someone has just written something a bit dodgy, we'll usually edit as opposed to anything else.

I see now what seems to have happened is I responded to one of a double post. The post I looked at said zero, because that was the duplicate I didn't respond to. The other of course shows and contains my response.

Oh, that makes sense! Thanks for enlightening me on what happened. It's good to know there wasn't a more serious problem.
