Buspar anyone?

Postby Adna » Thu Jun 30, 2005 5:38 pm

I've been diagnosed as bipolar - my other disorders get overlooked, because they are not considered as serious. I think I suffer from generalized anxiety and other disorders that are intricately related, but not yet diagnosed. I have severe anxiety though, but have just started Buspar in last few weeks for severe anxiety. I just wanted to say that even at a very small dose, I have experienced a noticable reduction in my anxiety. I am obviously no doctor and would not recommend anything to anyone, but I did want to relay that I seem to be having some success, if anyone if wondering about it. Being bipolar, I can't take all the typical medications for anxiety and depression without a worsening of my bipolar condition. Buspar has been the first thing that has actually worked on my anxiety with little to no side effects. Buspar is for anxiety, but I think it's fairly new. Just thought I would share the information.

My husband has always praised buspar (just no $$$ to go to the dr). He has all kinds of issues/disorders. I'm glad to hear that it works so well for you; I was kinda weary about it from the way he was praising it so highly hehehe He said the type he used to take when he was younger, he could cut off into 3 pieces and take either one or two a day and it worked miracles for him (and lasted a while)!! We're working on saving up the money to drag him to the doctor to see if we can get him a script for it...the ways he medicates himself now is very costly and definately not anything prescribed...and not working well. thanks for the info

In addition to what I said about Buspar, now that I have taken it a while, I just felt I had to note some other effects I have experienced. I think the low dose made me hypomanic (felt fantastic, no negative behaviors stemming from it) - but when the doc increased the dose (I'm not even sure why) I got closer to mania, became extremely irritable over everything, couldn't cope. I am now back down to the original dose, I'm hoping I will go back to feeling how I was (except that I am also recovering from VERY negative side effects of Seroquel). So, we'll see...

I've been on and off Buspar for about 6 years now it was the first thing they tried me out on, and so far it's the only thing that seems to work the best for me.
