avolition medication?

Postby blackbird86 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 4:19 pm

I'm schizoaffective and am really struggling with motivation lately. Was wondering if anyone is on/knows of any drug that helps with that. Right now I'm on Seroquel 300mg in the morning, which helps slightly, but mainly just helps control the positive symptoms. I tried Straterra, but it didn't do a whole lot outside of making me really depressed. I see my shrink again in a couple weeks and am going to ask him for sure, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried or has heard of anything that works for motivation.

THERE IS A STUDY DONE THAT I HAVE THE LINK TO THAT PROVES THE ANITPSYCHOTICS MIMIC OR CAN AMPLIFY IF YOU HAVE THE, OR CAUSE THE NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS OF SCHIZOPHRENIA.
I am bipolar, and the only type of drug that stops my depression, mania/psychosis is the antipsychtoics. Since I have been on them I have no initiative. I can't shower, clean, and can hardly cook. Shower once every week or so if I force myself. THis drug is causing it ..I never had any of this before these drugs. I have tried Zyperxa, Respiridal, Seroqiul, Abilify, and I am on Invega. Can anybody help? They seem to block the dopemine that makes motivation!! I ALSO CAN HARDLY LEAVE THE HOUSE. IF YOU WOLD LIKE TO CONTACT ME i AM AT *edited*

Hi Blackbird & Cathy,

i had the same problem with both antipsychotics and SSRIs, which makes sense cause there are some ideas going round that SSRIs might deplete dopamine levels too... (?)

for me the only thing that helped was lithium + fluoxetine (which is supposed to work differently from other SSRIs for some reason... read some stuff, not enough to know the details.) not on meds now.

i havent heard of anything that stops avolition, only combinations that don't cause it or cause it less... just messing around with things until they work... not ideal i know.

hope you find something that works tho.

...if anyone finds a cure for avolition i think there would be a lot of people who'd want to know! :)
