FAQ's

Ok whereas I realize taking the medication when it is not prescribed is wrong , illegal, dangerous be thankful that there are people out there who have ...for there is some important information to be learned. First off I am not a doctor nor do intend to make any kind of analysis of your particuliar case but this is what I can say. Adderall is FLAT OUT "kiddie ectasy" exageration? Absolutley not only difference is Ecstasy(MDMA) floods your brain with Serotonin (The Hormone that is released for joy/happiness) Adderall if over prescribed or a wrong diagnosis Floods your brain (Dopamine which also triggers joy but doesnt allow your brain cells to transmit information as rapidly as when your very excited which leaves your child in a state of euphoria/zombiness) I've taken Adderall 30mg and Adderall XR quite a few times usually to get through a rough work week or occassionally as a recreation I have taken as much as 180mg and as little as 10mg SO PARENTS listen closely the most noticeable differences in doseage is how long and how high the peaks and valleys will be ANYTHING over 10-15mg max PER day for any child under 13 is regardless what any doctor tells you harming your child! Ask you Pediatrician or Psych when you go back if they have any personal experience or any of there family takes it! Most likely not! Adderall is a quick fix for a problem that might just be handle with a little CBT. After All Adderall is an amphetamine **High Risk For Children With Undiagnosed Heart COnditions Responsible for 20 Sudden Deaths alone in 2005 with doses as little as 5mg yes 5mg** Would you let your kid take Ecstasy everyday or Crystal Meth on a regular basis because news flash you are! If i've enlightened you at all and you wont more facts on Pros and Cons you can email me At Mike_D_Agrusso@yahoo.com

Hi, I've suffered negative side-effects of Adderall, and so has my son. I was told AdderallXR would be easier on the system, since it is extended release. The a.m. dose (30mg) worked best, helped me stay focused and on task, but I was always extremely irritable, easily frustrated and would blow up if things weren't going smoothly. As it would wear off, I could feel like I was losing my concentration. I also felt severely fatigued and often had to sleep, it got so bad. The second 30mg dose just never kicked in like the a.m. dose did. If I didn't take the second dose early enough in the day, I would often suffer severe heart palpitations and insomnia.

My son and I also became nearly Anorexic early in the day, then in the late afternoon-early evening we'd both binge eat. We both became socially withdrawn, suffered anxiety attacks, had severe depression with suicidal thoughts, and were extremely paranoid.

I've been off this junk since Feb. 2006, and my son's been off for almost 3 years. Now, we are trying Omega oils, supplements, and a healthy diet. I don't think we'll ever be the same, however. We still suffer bouts of depression and anxiety nearly every day. My son is doing much better than I. Now the doctor wants to put me on Ritalin! NO WAY!!!
All over the world I've searched and hunted, but can't find the cure for feeling unwanted.

I took adderall for a while and I've never experienced hallucinations on it. All it did for me was make me anxious and I found that I started biting the inside of my mouth.

I was prescribed 180 mg of Adderall per day (60 mg of the tabs 3 x per day) and at that dose I never hallucinated, I recently bumped back up to dexedrine and at 150 mg per day (note: I am 26 and been on these meds since age 6 so that is why my dose is so high) I don't hallucinate either so I would presume that the person taking it and having that effect isn't a good candidate for stimulants at all, try strattera or even the new "snake oil" med Provigil which helps some people apparently.

I feel you on this one. sometimes the only time i can eat is at like 1030 at night just before i go to bed and i hate that because it wakes me up to eat then i don't want to go to bed for a couple more hours. the only way i have found to help this is by taking Tylenol PM no later then 730pm when i have to be up at 530am. any later and i am so tired going to work and all i want to do is sleep and drive and i wish i could but my wife is not fond of that idea so sometimes when i hit a red light when it just turned red i will close my eyes and get a min of sleep then my wife or the cars behind me honk and get my attention.
They always say "you can do anything you put your mind to", but what if you don't have control of your mind?

Kathy, I had paranoia problems on 20 mg myself. 10 mg seems like the highest "safe" amount for most people, to me. My precription went down to 10 mg, and it slowly stopped. I take 5 mg a day now, and no serious side effcets.

I know it's wikipedia and all, but you can read about ADHD medication side effects (including psychosis) here:

What have you found out in your research? I am extremely passionate about this topic because I feel like I lost my daughter for the five years she was on adderall xr. I have done hours and hours of research to try and get her off the stuff. However, with amphetamines, people build up a nasty tolerance fast. The only thing that helped my daughter with her tolerance and mood swings was a product called ampheta-restore. The stuff is an all natural vitamin/supplement. I am very passionate about this cause because I feel as if I lost my daughter for so long due to this drug. It was the same story with Vyvanse as well. I want to save other parents this same heartache because it cost our family so much time and money!

That can be a side effect, albeit more rare and extreme, when taking too much or mixing it with other meds. Are you taking it as prescribed?
