Collecting medications

Postby Little Miss Trouble » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:19 pm

I've been on meds for years and years and up until recently have been able to collect them monthly, but after taking an OD 6 weeks ago my GP will no longer prescribe me a months worth, in fact its even worse than that, I'm only allowed my daily dose each day. My friend had been collecting them all and then giving me just a days worth each day, but it has now changed that I have to go to the chemist EVERY DAY to collect them.

I'm not happy to do this, I mean most days I don't leave my flat, or even get dressed, Im not going to just go out to get meds that I don't actually want to be on anyway. I also find it really degrading and can just not see me doing it, so its more likely that Im just going to stop taking them, cold turkey, which I know isn't advised but hey. I'm also on quite a high dose of the drug so know it wont be easy, but I'd rather that, that have to go collect them daily.

Does anyone else have to do this?

I have been in a similar position - yes - but please try to see this from the perspective of the doc. In his/her mind, you are liable to kill yourself. If it happend, they might be the one to get blamed for incompetence for giving you too many meds when you are clearly suicidal. Even if yuo aren't actually suicadl, can they really believe you or take the risk?

Still, there are positives in this my friend (but you might not agree with me). One positive is that this forces you to go out each day, and I certainly view that as a good thing. It should also serve to increase your level of responsibility over things, in general. You don't have to take the meds, but I can only see positives in yuo continuing to take them. All I ask is that you do what you feel is best for you. I cannot know this, as I have no clue who the frig you are. You are the one who is in the best position to know what is best, but you can always take on-board advice from your doctor too.

I do totally get it, and when Im in a good state of mind, I think, yeah its what I have to do, but at the moment those times a few are far between, I really hate the idea.

I dont want to HAVE to go out everyday, I dont want to have to get dressed everyday.

My main concern with not doing it is it was my GF/ex GF who was bringing me my pills (has ended it with me, after finding me nearly dead 6 weeks ago, and doesnt know if she can cope with me having BPD) and I dont want her, or others to think Im just not doing it to make her have to do it. That is not at all the issue. - well not that I am aware of.

Guess only time will tell how this is going to pan out.

Time can let it pan out indeed... ...or you can start to change things before time begins to sort them out. If you do nothing, then time might bring you further into a life you really dont' want to be part of. Instead, I feel that it would be better to make plans on how you can improve things. Please try - that's all I can ask of you dude.

I really just don't know what to do, sometimes I wonder if I am just rebelling coz of my GF not bringing them round any more. Or rebelling at being TOLD what to do, it all being arranged behind my back and me having NO say in it at all.

Part of it is because, I just simply don't want to be on them, it's med's I have been on for years, when all the doctors treat me for was depression, when one lot didn't work, they would up the dose until it showed that it just wasn't going to work so changed meds, then it would start all over again with a different drug. I don't think I need to be on them, but guess I need to wait till I see my psychiatrist before deciding that.

I was thinking this morning, well hey at least I'll have Sundays off, get two lots on Saturday, but the chemist told me today, that nope over the summer they are going to be open on Sunday, so I have to go in then too. Maybe with the doctors not being open the weekend the script for my drugs will say sat and sun....

...at least you've done it though. You should be proud of the week you've had. How many others would not bother going to collect them? I imagine that quite a few people just wouldn't bother.

I've been allowed to make it weekly instead of daily, so thats been good. It wasnt that bad having to go daily, but only because I live in town, if I had actually had to get a bus or anything then Im not sure I would have stuck to it.
