Need advice on clozapine

Postby broken_sword_1 » Sat Aug 13, 2016 2:26 pm

I have been on olanzapine for about 5 years. In the beginning it was fantastic. It used to make me calm and tranquil. Now I seem to have lost those effects. This happened after my last hospitalization which may have had something to do with it. In the hospital I was given olanzapine 15mg in the morning and 15mg at night with 6mg paliperidone in the afternoon. Now I take only olanzapine 20mg at night. I dont know what to and I am considering clozapine. My pdoc says that clozapine is the best antipsychotic and olanzapine is second. I have to join work soon so I cannot have cognitive disabilities. Given this situation is it recommended that I change to clozapine.

What is your diagnosis? I'm bipolar and had tried Olanzapine, Risperidone, Quetiapine, Asenapine... a number of antipsychotics, before changing to Clozapine as the main drug of my "cocktail".

None of the previous actually worked. Clozapine did. I tend to believe it when they say it's the strongest antipsychotic around. The only downside are the regular blood tests for agranulocytosis, a rare blood condition that one can develop while on Clozapine.

Since I'm posting this 7 months later (but better late than never, I guess...), I hope you have found your right med already.

Good luck!
