Anti-depressant drugs

what are the side effects of anti-depressant drugs?

Is weight gain one of them?

There are many different potential side effects, but it all comes down to the particular type of AD drug and the individual. I've tried many different ones. Some I've noticed no side effects. Others might have short term side effects that wear off after a couple of weeks. All the AD drugs come with a leaflet (or can be easily looked up) which will be specific for that drug. But even within that, it comes down to the individual. For example, a common side effect across many AD drugs is insomnia or drowsiness/sleeping too much. So the same drug could have the opposite effect in different people. Or none at all.

Weight gain can be a common side effect of some drugs, but depends on the drug and the individual. Again, many AD drugs will have listed as a side effect weight gain or loss due to changes in appetite. But which one you experience will depend on how you individually react with that particular drug. Or you might not experience appetite/weight changes at all. Your doctor should be able to tell you which are the most common side effects though for a particular drug, through their knowledge but also experiences from patients they've prescribed it to.
