Is it possible to be prescribed 5 or so clonazepam a month?

Postby BonjourJakk » Wed Dec 18, 2013 4:36 am

I've been exercising at the gym at least three times a week, (1.5 hours each time). My diet is very good. I quit smoking entirely almost three weeks ago and I have been seeing a psychologist twice a month for a few months.

i feel as if i've made progress, but not as much progress as i've hoped for. My anxiety is still, generally, out of control. I don't want pills, but sometimes my anxiety is so overwhelming that I feel the absoliye best thing for me would be to have some immediate relief- such as clonazepam or another fast acting anti-anxiety pill. But I want a limited supply because I know how addictive these pills are. Is it possible to be prescribed only 4 or 5 pills a month (of clonazepam for example)?

Does anyone on this forum take anti-anxiety drugs such as clonazepam? Are you prescribed a low amount?

I don't see why not. I have an alprazolam (xanax) prescription that I get refilled every few months, and it's for just 20 of them. I only use them when I absolutely need to, and my doctor knows this, so there haven't been any issues. It only really gets tricky with addiction issues if you're taking them daily.

That said... if your anxiety is constant, it may be worthwhile to consider an SSRI or something, even if just for a little while, until you've made more progress with getting things under control in therapy? Instead of trying to fight off each episode individually? Probably not necessary if it's only a once-in-a-while thing, but maybe something to think about if it's really getting frequent/overwhelming.

Anyway, definitely talk with a GP/PCP or psychiatrist about it. Hope you're able to find a suitable solution soon! :)

Yeah, 20 every few months seems reasonable. I don't think benzos are dangerous as long as they are properly taken only when needed, and not often.

My anxiety is generally sporadic. At times it feels constant, but i'm usually able to calm myself down enough. But at times it gets so out of control, and the sense of impending doom is overwhelming. I will definitely talk to my psychologist first, because my doctor is a moron (lol, no offense to him).

I am not interested in taking an SSRI as i honestly don't believe they do anything, at least for me. At least benzos actually have effects that ate noticeable.

Thanks for your reply :)

I have a prescription that I only take when needed (For social anxiety). I get one for 30, but its suppose to last me 3 months and he checks me out quarterly. I would say if you think your going to take it everyday, you need to be on something else. If you are only going to take it as needed and you truly don't need it that often, then you won't have to worry about the addiction. If you have a bad week, you just need to call your doctor. If you don't think you can do that ....
