wonder why medication?

Postby Ashish » Wed Feb 22, 2006 8:05 pm

Hi all, A dangerouslly large number of people in the order of millions are falling victims to anxiety or panic or depression of some sorts. I myself had a rough patch of depressed life. One can go to wikipedia or google and search for reported and medically proved side effects of many of these anti-depressant or anti-anxiety drugs; some being felling sick or tired, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, difficulty sleeping, feeling agitated or nervous, constipation, difficulty ejaculating or premature ejaculation, etc.
And imagine that more than 10% of the people consuming these are officially reported to have such side effects! Also they require several days and several weeks to take effect. Not to neglect the costly consultation fees and costs of those pharmaceuticals. Still looking at people jumping to pharmaceuticals for every trivial problem is something that disturbs me a lot.

The problem lies within or around us and so are the solutions. I have tried Self Therapy suggested at selftherapy.org and have found it to be tremendouslly helpful in boosting my self-esteem and confidence levels and faith in myself. For those suffering from any such symptoms I would genuinely suggest having a look at selftherapy.org. You have anyways nothing to lose except may be a fraction of the fees we dish out for all those medications. Give it a try - you would definitely want to continue it once you know it.

best regards

Of course you will get side effects from anxiety and depression medication, just like you'd likely get side effects from birth control and other medications that are perscribed to you.

However they almost always go away, if not that's when you dicuss it with your doctor to find other options.

i have the luck that my docs are not so keen on meds. they only see it as a support for my therapy and to help through the most difficult times.

but there are also those who love to build organisms around the drugs and call them people... kinda like creating a robot in my opinion..

my point being; meds aren't good or bad, they might help or not. just beware of how they are prescribed...

Yeah if I could go without medication I wouldn't be on any. But me and my psychiarist have tried the no med route and I did not do so well.

If I wanted to try getting off of it again, I'm sure she'd support me, but however i've crashed twice without being on medication, so chances are I will again.
