I have been on Paxil for 10 years now and I am depressed, mostly because of a circumstance that has happened in my life, but before that I could feel myself going downwards a little. I was told by a psychiatrist that I need to change my medication. I have tried to change it with two others, specifically Zoloft, another ssri and Effexor, an snri. They both did not work and I felt so much worse being off the Paxil.
Do I need to change my medication after 10 years? I was thinking of trying Lexapro next.

I just wrote a post on not using medication. Everyone gets depressed but people that suffer from constant depression suffer from a low emotional intelligence. You need to learn how to deal with problems better so every little thing does not break you down. oThis can be done with therapy, talking not medication. and life decisions will affect your mood. If you experience a tragic event. You can either sit on the couch all day and watch tv. Or go to the gym everyday. One will lead to depression the other will help you cope.

That's your opinion, not mine and that doesn't answer my question so don't respond to my thread.

I work in the mental health field and serve a lot of people with psychiatric disabilities. Many of these people have been on the same medications for 20+years. I have never heard of having to change your medication every 10 years but it is definitely something to talk to your doctor about.
