I used to take Paroxetine, but it turned me into a non-sexual wooden plank with no ability or desire to even think about sex. For years.
Was changed to Mirtazapine to counteract the damage the Paroxetine did, but now I find it difficult not to think about sex. I get silly, overwhelming 'teenage crushes', and even (near as damn-it) spontaneous orgasm.
Has anyone else experienced this with Mirtazapine?
Thanks.

I got hypersexual with mirtaz but always put it down to it sending me high (I am BP). I wonder if it was a side effect in and of itself perhaps. Jic are you having any other signs of going high like racing thoughts or irritability, increased spending etc.

Still getting used to "real" emotions coming back again, rather than being "numbed" on the old medication.
Thought I had some manic symptoms before ever taking Mirtz, went to Dr, was informed that that was definitely not the case.

Antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction is a frequent side effect which may greatly contribute to treatment non compliance. Mirtazapine has a pharmacological profile expected to result in a lack of sexual dysfunction. The main purpose of this 6-month open-label study was to evaluate the effects of mirtazapine on sexual function of a sample of depressed patients.
METHODS: Seventy-eight patients meeting DSM-IV criteria for major depression or adjustment disorder with depressed mood or with mixed anxiety and depressed mood, sexually active prior to the episode, were treated with mirtazapine (15-60 mg/day). Effectiveness was assessed using the 17-item Hamilton rating scale for depression (HAM-D-17), the Hamilton rating scale for anxiety (HAM-A) and the clinical global impression (severity and improvement) scales (CGI). Sexual function was evaluated with the psychotropic-related sexual dysfunction questionnaire (PRSexDQ) which detects clinical changes in sexual dysfunction.
RESULTS: Forty-eight patients (61.5%) were experiencing sexual dysfunction at baseline. A return to normal sexual functioning was observed in 27 of 38 (71.1%) patients completing the study. Significant reductions in mean total PRSexDQ scores were detected at day 90 and endpoint and only four patients withdrew or required dose reduction due to mirtazapine-induced sexual dysfunction. A total of 37 patients (47.4%) achieved complete remission of depression (HAM-D-17 score < /= 7) at endpoint. Only seven patients (9.0%) withdrew the study because of adverse events.
CONCLUSION: Mirtazapine showed in this study that it is an effective and well-tolerated antidepressant treatment with a possibly lower incidence of sexual side effects than other antidepressants.

I experienced this on Paroxetine. The effect wore off after a few weeks which was a relief.
Its must be a rare side effect of these types of medication.
I looked this side effect up on Google, but couldn't find much info.

I was searching the very side effect you wrote about last year with Mirtazapine. For the past year I have been on an extremely low dosage of this drug and in the process of weaning from it. Currently, my doctor is getting this compounded for me and I'm taking 1/16 th of a 15 mg. Next week I am to begin 1/32 of 15 mg. This is such a tiny amount but my sex drive is very high and I too have experienced the ridiculous crush feelings. I also spent a lot of money over the past year, whereas, prior to beginning this drug, I was always a saver. This is the first anti-depressant I've been on for more than 3 weeks.
There is something wrong with this medicine. I've researched it alot and have read many accounts of people spending, nightmares and inability to think. Basically it ruined my past year.

P.S. Did you ever get off Remeron?

Mirtazpine made me eat way too much and I was very tired on it. That made me more depressed.
