Question about Klonopin

Postby raycid » Thu Jan 17, 2008 7:39 pm

I have taken klonopin (clonazepam) for about 1.5 years and never have abused it and take between 1mg to 4mg a day, usually taken only 2mg a day, some days not taking it at all. Anyways I was prescribed it for anxiety, panic attacks, etc...

The Dr. who prescribed it to me I don't see anymore but the current Dr. who I have now said it is not something that should be taken for a long time and I have read that it is only meant for a few weeks.

I have read also that it can cause some problems if you take it for a long time.

I just want to know because, my last dr. said I need to get off it and gave me seroquel which I felt was ok at the time but I don't want to take seroquel because of the horrendous side effects and also I don't feel I need an anti-psychotic, I did at the time but now I am on Lamictal and I seem to have less manic episodes.

Is there something besides klonopin that is similar? Is it ok to keep taking the klonopin?

Thanks for any replies.

Hi

I take Klonopin and have been taking it for at least 3 yrs. My doctor also says it should not be taken for long term use. I also take a low dose of paxil for mild depression/anxiety.

I bascially told her it is my body and I did go off klonopin and I did not like being without it. For me personally it works great! Iam staying on it as long as I can. I am weaning off Paxil now and have no problems with withdrawal thanks to Klonopin.

I will continue to stay on the klonopin even when Iam off the Paxil.
Hope this helps, everyone is different and Iam not a doctor but for me it works!
Take Care anymore questions feel free to ask

Same here, I have been taking "vitamin K" for at least 3-4 years,
I take it regular same time 1mg 4x a day. I have stopped, and also tapered but it was not hard on me at all.

JMHO= Klonopin is the best thing for anxiety. I also take anti/depress too.

I can not take paxil or effexor they both made my anxiety much worse.

I have been on just about every antianxiety meds there is and
vitamin K is the best for me.

I hope this helps you.

I ran out of klonopin and had to be hospitalized in a mental hospital. I still don't have it, the dr. only gave me ativan when I specifically asked for the klonopin. I was told this dr. does not like to prescribe benzo's.
He put me on lithium, risperidal and lacmital (150mg) all of which did not help the problem (losing control). I was in the hospital 15 days. Anyways I feel I really need this stuff to be normal. I guess the klonopin last longer as I have to keep taking the ativan 4 times a day.
I am taking the risperidal but dropped the lithium and lamictal because of side effects.

You need to see a pdoc regular. Ativan is a well acting anxiety med but for me the effects wear off to quickly. I am thinking you and I have different dx's maybe?

Klonopin and Seroquel four times a day keeps me in my own skin.
There is no magic pill that can keep you from losing control.
Learning what triggers you, and avoiding situations are not easy, but they are skills that can be accomplished.
It is tough, I know from my own experience.

Best to you.
