Please don't be rude. You still need to phrase your answers respectfully in this forum, even if you want to disagree with someone.

Anxious58 wrote:Have fun giving your money away to people who don't deserve it.......... But you suggest I give it to a rich women who has never done anything for anyone? That is absolutely stupid.

Again, please be respectful when responding. Sarcasm and insulting people's opinions is not appropriate here.

You asked whether you should pay the late fee. I answered your question, giving my reasoning. So as far as your question reads, you did actually ask for an opinion in that regard. If you didn't actually want someone to give you that type of answer, you need to phrase your question differently, like "what would the repercussions be of not paying the late fee?". If you don't care for morality, then that's fine, just make sure you word your question so that you actually find the answer you are looking for.

And so then, in answer to what you are actually wanting to know. You will end up getting bad credit history if you don't pay it. Although you may think you don't ever want to purchase anything on credit, that is a pretty big call to make. This will effect you for getting phone contracts, car loans, any type of short term loan, home loans, internet connection contracts, electricity company contracts, rental property agreements and the list goes on. So although you might think you won't purchase anything on credit, you likely will want to at some stage. Unless you never plan on never renting a house, buying a car, making a phone call or wanting to have a hot shower. I mean you could probably find places that will sell you those goods and services without looking at your credit history but that would just be a hassle because it would preclude you from shopping in a variety of places.

In terms of short term consequences, you are likely to get a reminder letter, followed by a letter from a debt collector, followed by a reminder letter from the debt collector and then they proceed with a court case after that, which would likely lead to prosecution and then you would have a record of this. Then you will be ordered to pay the $50 plus all of the court costs incurred on both sides plus the costs of the debt collector. To begin seeing this woman, you likely filled out a form of your details and on this page would have been the agreement that you would have signed, as usually no practising healthcare provider in Australia will work with you until you have initially filled in that page.

If you don't pay it, it will be pretty hard for you to really see all the consequences of this until you are wanting to buy some of the things I mentioned above. So although you might feel like all they really did was send a few letters and it wasn't that serious, actually it will affect you quite a bit later on when you are trying to buy stuff. If you are prepared to live with those consequences and the impact on your credit record for the rest of your life, then don't pay it. If you don't want to live with all those consequences, then pay it.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.
