My wife needs to know if it is ok to tell her Psych that she has smoked pot for 15 years. Normally it would not be an anser but we have twi kids and do not know if they are leally required to notify someone about a mother that smokes MJ? She is quitting, but it has not been easy. She is a loving caring mother and does not neglect the kids.
Pleas ehelp with advice.

I'd give up the pot for at least 12 months before I'd see a psych. Pot can really screw your head up and it may be the whole reason your wife needs to see a psych.
If you tell a psych it will probably end up on file. Even if you trust that psych you must think of the future. The psych may move or something, so your file will be passed on to the next psych. I'd find out who will be able to access the file in the future. Some private psychs don't release any information about patient’s details.
Ask the psych about patient confidentiality? If they can assure you no one else access your file, then go for it.
Maybe you should shop around and find a psych with this type of patient confidentiality arrangement in place. You don't want someone getting the file and it coming out in court one day that your wife is a mad pot smoker.
I'd still give up the pot first though, for at least 12 months before I'd see a psych. Pot is a bad drug, it is the root cause of a lot of people problems.
