The Andronmedia Galaxy is about 2.2 million light years away. On a clear night if there are no bright lights it can be seen as a hazy patch in the sky with just your unaided eyes. I've seen it many times with just my eyes. It is amazing to be able to see that far and to know that you are seeing it as it was 2 million years ago.

Can your eyes "see" 2.2 million light years away, or is it more accurate to say that light from 2.2 million light years away travels that distance and hits your retina :? ?

My super abilty to do push-up's is only surpassed by my ability to pose pointless questions about phyiscs  !

Both of your statements about seeing are accurate. I used to be able to do lots of push-ups too, until I picked up some injuries. I used to do one arm push-ups and push-ups with a person on my back.
