"Ace of Spades" has to be one of the best heavy metal tracks ever recorded.
A true classic! 8)

I retract everything I said about Lemmy. Last night I saw an advert on t.v. where Lemmy was promoting the sale of a fried potato based snack!

The rule is; if you do an advert you are no longer an artist, you are just another corporate whore.

That's real narrow way to look at it. How about this, your "art" becomes your job. You know think about it, how well do you think motorhead albums still sell?

Think of it like this: Most people who are big name musicians sell out long before they start pushing fritos. Would you classify signing to a major label being a "corporate whore"? Being on Mtv or national radio syndicate is being a "corporate whore."

AND, most of these people start trying to or actually suceeding , breaking into this industry at a very young age, without a fall back career. So let's look at Lemmy, when I see a guy like him doing it I think, "hmmm, he must need the money"

There comes a point where your records aren't selling anymore, and you have no viable source of income. Soemthing tells me Lemmy doesn't hold some associates degree in insurance billing and coding or something. And it's not like he can get a job waiting tables. Point is, the guy's gotta pay bills.

What is that you do for a living? I'm a barista and I work at a UPS Store. I used to do independant graphic design, but now I do it out of the UPS Store. I think design would count as "art" and since now UPS takes a cut, that would make me a corporate whore. Well, I'm a corporate whore.

Firstly I don't do anything for a living. I am classed as disabled due to a schizoid personality disorder. :D

As for Lemmy and Motorhead's career, well it's true that they don't get into the charts anymore but they are still selling out tours wherever they go and their back catologue is a reliable seller, so I doubt if Lemmy has that many problems putting Jack Daniels on the table  . You're right about him not being able to wait tables when the money does run out though  .
Whats disapointing about Lemmy doing this commercial is that he was always the rebel. While other groups from the sixties came and went or, like the Stones, sold out he stayed true to his art.
I wouldn't say that signing to a big label or doing MTV was selling out because you are selling your own work, and business is business.
Advertising snacks or soft drinks on t.v. is different though. There are lots of professional models and actors who make a living solely from advertising and they should be the ones appearing in the commercials.
Hiring a recognisable star to go on t.v. to promote junk food is just lazy and shows a total lack of creativity. Although I think that you can almost excuse new pop groups doing commercials if they only expect to have a short career.

The one thing you seem to miss, is that Lemmy isn't that well known to the general public. Honestly, most people have probably heard of motorhead, but couldn't name a song, and have no idea who he is.

If people didn't know who Lemmy was why did the ad' company use him? Lemmy has been in the music business so long that there can't be many people under the age of 45 who wouldn't recognise him. I mean he's looked and dressed exactly the same way for the past 25 years!
They could have hired a sixty year old actor, put him in leathers and stuck him on a Harley for a fraction of the price of hiring Lemmy.

That's true but I'd bet that Lemmy would demand more than some old actor in leathers.
