hi i've got a friend whos parent is ill, maybe suffering with worse than depression, its an illness where by that his parent is really clever where he can act perfectly fine in front of some people and even convince them that my friend is lying when he tries to seek help of other people and authorities to get help for this parent.

things his parent does is stay up till the early hours of the morning, then wakes up at 6or7am maybe after 2 or 3 hours sleep, and sometimes no sleep at all, then is active again all day till the cycle repeats.

His parent also shouts at him, forgets who he is, or who his siblings are, swears at him, makes him seem like hes the one in the wrong even though hes the one whos trying to keep the family together. then also goes out wearing really random clothes, just totally acting not like how one should.

His parent has few friends, and the friends he does is stupid and doesnt realise the illness and blames the children for the parent acting the way he does, Its like he can minipulate people to believe that he isnt ill,

This illness has been happening year after year and is getting bad again. The person with it never gets any treatment and refuses to deal with it, has been sectioned once, but the children got the parent out due to missing him.

My friend is finding it really hard to cope, same with his siblings,
feeling like theres nobody to turn too,

So I'm on here to see if anyone has any ideas what the illness could be, and ways of helping my friend deal with his parent day to day or persuading him to get help.

Please help, Its destressing me their friend to see them go through this without them having anyone else to turn to, family etc to help as the other parent lives abroad.

thanks.

Although I cannot tell you what disorder the father is suffering from, I can tell you that it is incredibly serious. Talk to a school counselor about this, or another adult in a position of trust. They will know the correct route for dealing with the situation.
"I can feel guilty about the past, apprehensive about the future, but only in the present can I act. The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness."
