This poll will give you all the opportunity to express your needs here, so that the psychforum staff and members can better understand them.
We are always looking for new ways to improve the forum enviroment , and appreciate you as a member and your input.
If you happen to choose "other", feel free to post a reply letting us know....what, if you'd like.
If you have suggestions please also feel free to express yourself. All ideas will be considered, such as new forums, resources, etc.

The problem w/ the poll is that it only allows you one choice. I don't come here for one reason. I come here for a variety of reasons. And one reason does not outweight the other. Well...actually....my needs at the time I come here determine that. Right now I'm doing pretty ok...so right now I come here w/ the hopes of helping people. But I never come here seeking only to help people. I learn something from people here every day. I log on w/ my thoughts for people and often times someone else will log on w/ a difference of opinion to what I have to say....not uncommon for me to read what that person has to say and see a whole new perspective to a situation I might not have thought of before. I might be able to walk away from that w/ a positive new outlook. Sure...othertimes I might just have to walk away in disagreement of course!! But there are so many times I come to this site and man I learn so much from the people here w/out ever intending to come here seeking that out!!
And not only do I come here in hopes of helping people...it's great just to come here and talk w/ others who have been through what I have been through...I hope to do two things in talking w/ those who have been through what I have...I hope to help someone ...and I just feel better listening to others share their stories...to know I'm not the only one who has been through it...to see the variety in ages of the people going through it. It all ties together ...the reasons as to why I come here.
Hope that made sense!!

Angelic,
Made perfect sense! I wish we could make the polls allow multiple coices but I don't know how to do that. Sorry.
As for me I'm in an odd position as the Vice President of the company that owns and operated the forums and the founder of Psych Forums. I come here for all the reasons listed and also to make sure my users are protected from those who are spamming the forums or posting material that is harmful. I also come here to check that things are working as they should and every now and then to try to make the forums more functional. Which this poll should help me do.

it does make sense. might i suggest you choose , other. Which will go along with the response you gave. I appreciate your participation. And do understand that some come for many reasons.
I thought about putting all of the above, but that would be to broad of a choice, as it might not all apply.
Do you have another suggestion for an options?
thank you

Hi Sean, ddee;
I didn't mean to put down your poll!! I realize you are trying to get a good feel for why posters come to the forums....if I click on "other"...then you don't know my true choice....course my post that goes on and on about why I come here...if we all just log on and tell you why we come here...it doesn't help you narrow things down either like a poll does!!
You know...someone suggested that we have less topics...sort of narrow this forum down. Often times people post here and complain because we get so little traffic. If you read through some of the topics you will find that some of the topics can be covered in a few different places. I'm not the right person to ask what topics could be downsized though. Maybe some of the areas that see so little traffic would get more posters if we narrowed the field?
One thing I will say that I love about this forum is the "PM" feature. If you change anything about your layout or features...I hope you don't change that. I love that I don't have to give out my e-mail address to anyone.
If I can be of any help...I'll try. I might not have the best ideas. But my main goal here is to help others. I've been through some rough times. I feel I've come a long way in getting through them. I still have a ways to go....but I also feel it's my turn to try and give back to others who are struggling. Not because I feel I have resources ....I can't qoute people websites to go to....books to read or things like that...but I can speak from my heart, my experiences...and most of all...I simply truly care.
-Angelic
Please don't think that because I made a suggestion that I'm knocking what you already have in place. I don't mean to imply that. If you were to ask me what I would change, this is it. But overall....I really do like this site. You obviously have something great going. If I didn't believe that; I wouldn't be here. I think it's a great place to be. I've found great advice here, made some great friends even! People have made me feel welcome and made me feel safe and secure when I've been at my worst. I feel I've gotten what I sought out when I first came to this site. So please don't misunderstand my post!! -A

I would have to say that finding support would be the number one reason for me. I, unfortunately, live in a small town in the midwest where mental illness is still not recognized as a medical condition but a character flaw. The internet is a lifeline for me in finding information on new treatments but your site is different because of the personal touch. Thanks for being here. Care42

There's no other decent forums out there, that I can find anyway! I like the anonymity one has here... sadly Mental Illness isn't something one can easily share in the outside world. So hats off to this place... I hope I can help others from my experiences and also get some support when I need it.

I agree that I had more than one response I would have liked to have given. But I just chose the most important one.
I would like also to say that I appreciate the time and effort that are given by the people who moderate, prepare polls (and are interested in our imput) as well as the professional way that the site is run.
I love that I can sort by different criteria. I like that things seem to be handled on a timely basis.
Thankyou to all who do more than simply post here.
And thankyou to all who post here as well. The site has helped me very much.

I think this is a very kind caring community that understands mental illness to a degree not to criticize people for their mistakes and misfortunes. We all make mistakes and the mentally ill are the ones that have the hardest battle to not make mistakes.
