Hello,
I researched on the internet about MBTi personality test and got different opinions. Some people say that it is not reliable, but some people say otherwise. If you are a psychologist, can you give the right answer here?
Thanks.

Hi, just a heads up, we don't allow anyone to present themselves as a medical professional here. It's strictly against the site rules. Also, Just for Fun is not the right forum to post this in, so I've moved it to the Living With Mental Illness forum

So first off I am not a professional so this isn't going to be any kind of definitive answer. But the first time I ever saw a psychiatirst (and we're talking 30 years ago) he suggested a book on the subject. The idea being that I might come to understand myself a bit better.
And over the course of those 30 years my results have always been the same even when a professional is doing the testing. But generally speaking it is just pseudo science. Everyone of us is unique with different backgrounds, experiences and families. So we're not all going to fit nicely into any of the "types". Especialy as the questions are pretty generic and can be answered anyway you choose.
So whilst I would say it might give you an idea of the type of person you are - shy, introvert etc I'm not sure you should be relying on it as being 100% accurate and reliable. In fact a lot of people view it as a load of nonsense.
Mine is INFJ. A lot of what they say about that type does fit, but there are also things that don't.

Just a thought, although we know the tests, whether MBTi or others, it's always good to have a second opinion. Just to have peace of mind or avoid the feeling of being trapped and not being able to do something. It's psychological though.
