Feelings on getting caught

Postby anthropologie » Wed May 05, 2010 11:36 am

I was never diagnosed with kleptomania, but I'm dead sure I have had it. I've been swiping things for years, just on whim... I got caught a few times by salespeople and once by the police, but somehow, the strongest emotion I felt at the moment and still feel is anger towards them. I feel like I was belittled... and I don't feel much guilt about what I did at all. Is that normal? How did or would you feel if you were arrested or caught by the authorities?

i had kleptomania recently and was caught. I have never stolen a single item since then. The department store threatened to call the police but I think they could see that I was genuinely remorseful (I actually broke down in tears in the back room), and they decided to not call them. Instead, they just told me never to set foot in there for a year. I'll never step foot in there ever again, to be honest with you.

Is it your anger towards them that is causing you to continue? I understand your anger, but try to see it from theior point of view. If you were the manager of a shop, would you allow some pesron like you to steal things and get away with it? Also, try to realise that once you get a police record that it's with your for life; and that you are required by law to mention it on every application form you ever fill out.

Ironically, I'm saving more money now than I was when I was stealing.

Ah, the same thing happened to me. For some reason they asked if I had any scars, so I showed them my cutting ones. That seems to rile them up, and I broke down. Actually, they said I'm not allowed in the store ever again- : (

Hm... if you put it that way, I guess... Though, when I met the manager, she was making jokes about stealing things with the guards. I felt like they were talking about how they were so successful at what they had done, and that I had failed miserably, stupidly, by getting caught.

The police record thing is just annoying, but I guess it makes sense. Stealing is supposedly a bad thing, after all, and i guess people should know- actually I don't really care for the police record thing either. makes it seem like every person who has klepto is a bad person.

I still steal, but it happens much, much less often. I like the feeling of power...

And I'm really, really bad with money ._.

So, you're still doing this, anthropologie (stealing I mean)? I have not done it since that day I was caught, and I don't think I could ever do it again. In fact, since then, two strange things happened and I was pleased at what I did: First, I was walking past some guy and an envelope fell from his pocket. In it was 100+ pounds. My first reaction was to pick it up, run after the guy, and hand it back. Secondly, I found a wallet lying on the street once and handed it into a police station.

I've never been caught stealing, I'm fairly organized about it, even though it's never premeditated, the only times I was in danger of being caught was when I did it while drunk.
