Any Dog lovers out there

This morning I had such a migrane I couldn't lift my head, If I opened my eyes it was all just bright colours, my baby boy came and jumped on my bed and laid on to p of the quilt but so close. I couldn't see and I felt so sick and scared, like my brain was going to explode, but he nestled his face under my chin and I relaxed and went to sleep and woke up tons better.

He's a rescue dog and was ill treated and very nervous, but really I didn't rescue him he rescued me, he gave me the need to g out, the confidence to try and the support to be able too.

To think they were once wild animals and now there is such a bond between humans and animals it's truely awesome.
I am very nervous and private and prefer not to give any information that links my problems and my life, I hope this is okay and I wish everyone happiness.

Oh, I know how you feel! Animals can never let you down like humans. If they love you, they love you unquestioningly. My dog is so sweet, he always makes me smile even if I'm having a bad day. They're just so innocent.

Part german shepherd part lab. He's a mutt, but he's the cutest dog I've ever seen. I'm sure everyone says that about their animals, lol. What kind is yours?

I have a black German Shepherd and a Chow and Bassett Hound cross. He is absolutely adorable and the most loving unconditionally loving dog I have ever had. I also have two horses and I do not know where I would be without them but probably in the mental ward.

any beagle-lovers out there?

some of my happiest memories i have concerning my boyfriend's mum's beagle. i wasn't much of a dog person before because i didn't grow up around animals. but that beagle stole my heart.
she wasn't allowed into the bedroom but i made exceptions whenever i took naps. then she would hop onto the bed, snuggle up next to me and put her head on my belly. i have never felt so at peace as in these moments.
unfortunately the owner gave the dog away because of the shedding....i will miss that dog greatly.

I love dogs don't have one anymore.. but in the past I had a german shepard/lab, and a black lab.. my twin has an australian shepard, and my bf used to have a border terrier.

I hope to get a dog soon, either a border terrier, ( we need a small dog for the townhouse, and one that doesn't shed alot, BF has allergies) or a minature wiener dog, thought about getting a jack russel, but I don't feel lke dealing with a spazzing dog until they're 7 and settle down. :P

Don't know what other breed to look at.

Sadgurl, I used to work at an animal rescue centre with sole responsiblity for the kennels there. I had to clean, feed, train, groom and do anything else that needing doing to look after 40+ dogs on my own every day.
I got to be very good at picking the right dog to match the owner, although it was more like finding the right owner for the dog. I'm sure I must have spent more time training owners than training dogs  .
Anyway, here's my advice on dog breeds for smaller homes.
Firstly I would not recommend any terrier or miniature dog as they will drive you ( and your neighbours) nuts with their constant yapping. They are also more likely to bite children and the postman then any other breed and as they are really bred as working/hunting dogs they have way to much energy and often need a lot of exercise and obedience work.

What would I recommend then? A greyhound!
Most people think greyhounds are the temperamental super-athletes of the dog world. Well they are very fast and love chasing things but they actually require hardly any exercise. They are perfect for smaller homes because given the chance they would happily sleep all day  . Also they very rarely cause noise problems because they are often too busy sleeping to bark at anything  !
As for grooming; they have very short sleek glossy coats which take very little grooming so they hardly shed any hair or cause allergy problems.
They are normally very gentle and affectionate and I've never known one to bite. They are absolutely wonderful with children and are so gentle that even the smallest child could take one for walks without them pulling on the lead and because they are so placid they are incredibly easy to train.
Health wise they are amazing. Greyhounds are one of the healthiest breeds so they don't cost much in vets bills.

If you don't want the hassle of training a puppy there are lots of charities that re-home ex racing dogs and they make wonderful pets too.

Anyway, that's my recomendation, but it's probably worth asking your local vet or animal sanctuary for their advice.

I think that greyhounds are fantastic dogs, our neighbor has one. I don't think it's fair to have that breed in the house though because it needs alot of exercise, and as of right now we don't even have a fenced in yard at the back.

With miniature dachshunds we have close family friends who have had nothing but that breed of dog, and they have been great companions to them. The border terrier, my bf's dog that passed away almost a year ago was yappy at other dogs, and other small animals, but she was otherwise a great dog, however had stomache problems, but she went to obediant school and had a wonderful temperment, she wasn't bad around kids, though the older she got the less tolerant she was, the dachshunds were always fine, when they were young they were a bit snippy, but once they got to know you they were fine...

Jack's I know can have a bit of a temperment around other animals and sometimes children

Greyhounds i'd love, but as for the space and exercise they would need I don't have the yard etc, so I don't want to be unfair to that breed...having a small house... does that make sense?

The breed has to have not alot of dander, and good for someone with really bad allergies, and poodles are definatly out of the question lol.

Shnauzers I thought about, but they can be yappy and they have health problems, alot of them for that particular breed. Mexican hairless and those breeds are out of the question, labapoodles I wouldn't mind having but my BF doesn't want that breed.

I don't know I am more keen on a dog right now then the BF, but he also is at work 12 hours a day, and i'm home by myself all the time and want that companion. I'm so use to having animals around me 24/7 and being here and not having them gets depressing.

Thanks QL- maybe i'd be able to convince him on a grey hound, there is alot of those dogs that needs a home, that's for sure. Our neighbours dog Zuka he says is a couch potatoe... :)

Just got to keep researching I guess, I'm not as picky as he is... :P

I have a Heinz 57 lab dalmation collie springer bit of everything, they just bring so much joy don't they animals ?

I love them, I've had a jack and my friend has one, lovely but they do need a lot of excerise, another friend rescued an ex racing greyhound, so adorable and a lovely browny silver.

Collie's are just so intelligent

Springers are nuts bless em, lovely but just scatty everyone I've met

Westies have a lovely nature

And Beagles anyone seen the film Shiloh bless his little cotton socks

I worry about them all with the fox hunting ban

dogs have evolved to lovely kind creatures I hate that people insight them to violence again,

I met a gorgeous guy, but I finished it when he said he hunted, I just couldn't bare the thought,
I read
"Children of the New Forest"
and I do get the hunting for food to feed your family, but as a sport it just makes me sick.

I know others like it and I do respect it's everyone's choice.

I wrote a poem about it
I am very nervous and private and prefer not to give any information that links my problems and my life, I hope this is okay and I wish everyone happiness.
