For Beethoven, preferably Sviatoslov Richter or Artur Schnabel. Friedrich Gulda is also under-rated. Vladimir Horowitz is good, but I prefer his classical era playing over his romantic era playing. The only pianist I really can't get behind is Alfred Brendel. Man is the worst Beethoven interpreter I've ever heard.
