New member and Psychology student...

Postby yourcloudhost » Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:33 pm

Hello,

I just wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and say hello to everyone here before jumping in to any ongoing conversations  I am 42 will be 43 next month, married with 4 kids that are currently living with us, only two that are under 21, and a daughter not living with us. My son is 22 and living with us, I have a 10 year old daughter and two step daughters that are 16 and 22 both now living with us along with my 22 year old step daughter's husband.

I graduated with an Associates Degree in Information Technology about six months ago from University of Phoenix, and am in the midst of the Psychology Bachelor of Science program looking forward to continuing on in Psychology for my Masters Degree as well. My current class is Statistics in Psychology, next is Biological Psychology

Not that anyone is overly interested in any of this information but thought it good to let everyone know a little about me, and at what level my judgments, suggestions, or debate stances are coming from :D

I am really looking forward to meeting new people and to the opportunity of learning new information and insight, broadening my perspective of various topics, and in the off chance it happens the opportunity of having knowledge or input that may be found beneficial.

Thanks, and hope to see you around soon,
Brad

Hi Brad,

You are studying some interesting things there. Are you only studying now because you have the money? - i.e. you did'nt have it in the past? I studied computer science at first, then industrial biology, and I'm now doing a postgard/PhD in cancer and genetics. I have learned a lot by being on this website in the time that I have (some 5 years now).

Hi Chucky!

Nice to meet you...WoW impressive! To be honest I am on loans and grants getting me through, I have been on disability for the past 10 years :( I had my own computer store and was doing very well in south Florida, the main water supply was Lake Okeechobee, the lake hit the lowest level it had been in 50 years that year and suspicions were that something poisoned me from the water, some reaction to one of the thousands of chemicals that had been dumped in to that lake over the last 50+ years that I had a bad reaction to, in fact I found out just a couple of years ago that South Florida Water Management was taken to court and lost a lawsuit by an environmental group that accused them of harming the wild life because the exact same year and exact time that the seizures and memory loss happened to me SFWM back pumped thousands of gallons of water from the cane fields into the lake and toxicity on some of the chemicals rose to over 10% higher than EPA judges safe, of course over the last 50 years some things were used that have never even been tested as far as how it effects humans.

At any rate we had moved away that year after I got sick and I have steadily gotten better though I will never be where I was I am afraid, but I am at least able to function. As for the college, I found out about being able to go after my then 7/8 year old daughter was worrying me, every time college was mentioned she would say " I am never going to college!" My 22 year old step daughter dropped out of high school, and my 22 year old son was just floating not really having any direction so my wife and I both started college, she got her AA in Business and is not going for BS in Business:Human Resources, and I got my AA in IT and am going for BS in Psychology, my son is in the midst of his AA in Business and my step daughter is getting her high school diploma through an online school that is accredited, and my now 10 year old daughter is looking forward to going to college so even if I never get to achieve my goals my efforts and my wife's have at least had a positive effect.

I am in the process of starting my own business again, this time from home and can go at whatever pace I am capable of that day in website development and web hosting.

Sorry for the biography :)

Hey,

I did some environmental science and toxicology during my studies, so what you said about that lake was interesting. I am still yet to read Rachel Carsen's Silent Spring book - you have heard of it? It makes you wonder how many chemicals are currrently in use that are harming us and other animals. As I understand it, strict regulations about chemicals only recently emerged here in Europe, but they don't apply in the USA/Canada.

You and your wife seem to have a good family life, and there seems to be lots of ambition there. I wish you all the best of luck of course.

Glad to hear that new regulations are emerging in Europe. We're almost always behind Europe here in N. America.

Some toxins, I hear, are very hard to get rid of in our bodies. I don't suppose there is anything like chelation therapy for anything besides heavy metals?

Im not sure that chelation therapy would work for 'those' chemicals that are hard to get rid of. It's a nice idea for those that are circulating in the blood that could potentially damage the liver/kidneys, but you'd have to receive the therapy soon after ingestion of the toxins.

THe problem with some of the toxins is that they accumulate in adipose/fat tissue! So, they remain there and can be released slowly if the fat tissue containing them is used as energy. You know, there was a case of an obese woman years ago who lost a lot of weight in a short space of time (through 'natural' means), but she died. The amount of toxins released from her fat tissue being burnt-up killed her. I find this story amazing.
