lt has to be "The Haunting", the older version. Spooky. l don't like gory horror films but the old Vincent Price films were classics, quite funny really. When my daughter was 17 and she saw The Exorcist she made me sleep in a camp bed in her room for a week with the light on.

Parador, I agree on When a Stranger Calls. That was a well done flick with some original ideas. The opening with the whole 'call is coming from inside the house' thing culminating in Charles Durning's closeup at the front door was classic. I still make a point of watching that movie once a yr or so. Also the killer in the bed scene.
As an overall observation, I think alot of what each person lists as their scariest movies has to do with the age and impressionable-level we were at when we first saw these films. I can recall movies that freaked the eff out of me as a kid that I can watch today and wonder why it scared me.

what he said lol
REC has got to be one of the scariest movies i've ever seen, together with paranormal activity (but only if you watch it alone in your room with headphones :P)

MaxVonSydow...The Exorcist is conspicuously absent from your list considering it contained wonderful acting from your namesake (of course, in my opinion). What did you think of the film?

Well there is no doubt i admire the acting of mvs.
He gives a great performance, and even though the exorcist goes way overboard and looses the scare factor with all the spinning/vomiting, it is a classic.

Max von sydow has had such a great and diverse career.
The classic The seventh seal", the absolute masterpiece "Pelle the Conqueror" where he gives the most believable
(and most heartbreaking) performance i have ever seen by an actor.
And the highly underrated Needful things, where he gets great support from awesome actor, the late J.t.Walsh.
Check out Walsh in "breakdown" he is the $#%^!

Anyway this thread is about scary movies, have to say that the original Hellraiser from 1987 was ######6 scary.
Before they ###$ up the cenobites..shooting cds from your mouth..yeah thats scary..

From a psychological standpoint se7en is also pretty scary the first time you watch it.
When they read his diaries...his thoughts poured out on paper...made my skin crawl, because there really are people like that out there.

I don't typically find most horror films scary, though I love watching them.

I found parts of El Orfanato and Misery to be very creepy.
Also (don't make fun of me) Paranormal Activity had one scene that absolutely terrified me like no other.
You make that dance look so new
And I'm in awe
A face like you've never seen
I'm yours tonight
So come on...

When I was running the food service place a customer asked me how the pea soup looked one day. I said"did you ever see The Exorcist?" She didn't buy any.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
