My wife cried over the book. But we haven't watched the movie yet. Is it any good?

I saw the ending of one of my favourite films today on terrestrial TV: My Dog Skip. Keeping with tradition, I cried when he (Skip) awoke while lying on the gurney in the vet's and then started licking Charlie Muniz's face.

I don't, although I do get a little teary-eyed. It's a tricky thing, really. When people talk about their ancestors coming over here to this country, I have to consider the fact that (to borrow something my best friend's sister's boyfriend said) my ancestors came over on a different boat. It's kinda difficult for a black person here to admit they even like GWTW, much less felt moved by it. Lots of ridicule and complaints about being a race traitor ensue.
The Wizard of Oz makes me cry, though. Partly because it just reminds me of watching it every year with my mom.
It's a Wonderful Life has me crying even if I only see the last ten minutes. Best I can figure is that 1) it's a beautiful story and 2) I'm pretty sure that I have no hope in hell of coming even close to having that sort of impact on the people around me. So I guess the movie both makes me feel good about humanity and miserable about myself.

Well, Lisa, life is a very long thing (the longest 'thing' that any of us will ever experience). People don't stay the same throughout their lives either. So, whilst you might not feel that you have much influence on those around you now, who's to say that you won't have an influence (or 'impact', as you say) in the near or distant future.

I watch Gone with the wind quite often. I love that era and I was born in Savannah and think it is so beautiful there. Of course I probably wouldn't have been born into a wealthy family back then so I am sure if I were to have lived I would not have been able to afford the lovely dresses and attend the balls parties etc. But I still love that time. I loved visiting old battlefields as a kid too. I love history. The parts that tear me up is where Scarlett shows weakness and starts to love Rhett before she screws it all up and in the end where Rhett could tolerate her no more. That of course is how I chose my name on this board to remind me to never become her. I think everyone can appreciate the movie no matter what race we are just for the historical fact that the war happened and affected everyone in the north and the south. It is such a good movie. My brother gave me the 65th anniversary DVD addition a few years ago and I like watching the special features to learn what was going on in that time period in the world as well. WWI being close to that time and the Ashley character was really perplexed at the real war not just one he was playing in. Anyways. Yes some times it moves me.

Myers.

Yes we watched the movie My sister's keeper at my sisters house. It was good but she and I and our girls were all blubbering by the time it was over.

I read the book the time traveler's wife and still haven't seen the movie. It was an amazng book and I cried while reading that book.

Lots of tearjerking movies had made me cry in the past, the recent one being "My Sister's Keeper"! I dunno I guess I'm just plain sensitive. I hate myself sometimes for doing that..

Forrest Gump made me cry the first time I watched it, when Forrest was talking to Jenny's tombstone and there were those birds...
It was sad. At least for me.
