Music

How much do you depend on music in your day-to-day life? And what kind of music: genre, making it or listening to it, in any particular situation?

Oh, and is there any one song, or album, that you've listened to and thought "this is exactly how I feel"?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but I thought of it and so had to ask.

And, if you can, explain why it means so much...

And also, if you DON'T like music, you can talk about that too.
And there are too many possibilities.

Music is one of the thing in this world that I really enjoy. I don´t know any other mean that can touch my heart so hard than music, appart from love.
Like everybody my music tastes have been varying along my life. And now, I have a quite ecleptic taste. I like any song that touch my heart. And I also like discovering new mixed styles.

Well, if I would have to choose a song which related my feeling just now, I´d say this one "She" by Bebe. That is "Ella"
These are more or less the translation into English of Chorus:
Today you´re gonna discover that world is only for you.
Noone can hurt you (twice)
Today you´re gonna understand that you can break your fears with only slamming the door.
Today, you´re gonna make smile because your eyes are tired of crying.

I'm a classicaly trained musician and i teach flute, clarinet and saxophone, so music is very important to me both personally and professionally.

Outside of the professional there are 5 songs that are quite poignant for me. All for different reasons.

In no particular order other than the order i heard them the 1st time.

Uncomfortably Slow- Newton Faulkner- Hand Built by Robots
The Saddest Song- The Ataris- So Long Astoria
Drugs or Me- Jimmy Eat World- Futures
Hate My Life- Theory of a Deadman- Scars & Souvenirs
Let Love In- Goo Goo Dolls- Let Love

I was going to give reasons in this post, but i decided not to. Some of them are self explanatory although i would like to point out that the Drugs or Me one is because i've had friends on drugs and the subject of the song reminds me of that. If anyone wants to know about any of the others let me know and i will try to explain.

It's really interesting to hear about things like this because music can really get inside someone... And I don't have time now, but I'm going to listen to all the songs everyone mentions, if I can them. Thanks for replying; don't stop.

I might mention something for myself later, once I have a think about it. And maybe you can just pick one song to explain, the one with the best (or easiest) explanation?

Well, a learner in my school is really ill and he´s really agressive. Music is the only thing that could calm him down while medication does work properly.

I usually find a song or group of songs that really express my state of mind, and then listen to them over and over again exclusively for several months. Then something will change, and I will find a new type of music to vibe to. It's a nice reference, because when I go back and re-listen to them, all the sights, sounds, smells, and mental state flood back into my conscious about what I was like during those months.
I don't get tired of liars and lies, I get tired of the people who believe them.

Yeah, I tend to go back and forth between different music from different parts of my life. It's like living that time again, for a moment.

Music is one of the few things I'm truly passionate about. It's also one of the few things that can draw emotional intensity out of me. On a day-to-day basis I do depend on it, but not for emotional experiences, just to make commuting more pleasant and give me an easy way to withdraw into my own mind in public.

There are definitely a few songs that define parts of who I am, and there are albums that were important to me at various times in my life. Usually though, when I want to get an intense experience out of music, the feeling I like is when the music describes something so totally beyond myself, that the music that "describes me" seems boring in contrast. Genre-wise I'm all over the map. Classical to black metal to indie. I'm more into artists who work beyond genres. I love music. :)

That's exactly right, babyfirefly.

Music is like a world in itself.
