H1N1 refers to a protein on the surface of the virus, just like H5N1 (Bird-Flu). Viruses aren't actually regarded as living entities either - they're just 'particles'. Anyway, where did you get the picture of the kid kissing the pig? My lectuerer sent that to me, bizarrely. Ever hear of a lecturer sending such emails to a student?!

When did the virus become public. Because I told my doctor I was leaving on the 15th and then left on the 22 and arrived and everyone around me was wearing masks.

Id definetely choose this over blood tests and lectures about how sick I am.

It was only within the past two week, but by then people had already travelled in and out of Mexico from/to all parts of the world. The virus hasn't made its way to Ireland but it has reached places like the UK and New Zealand. If you are worried about having it, then go to your GP.

Well, apparently, it's either this "coffin" or the real kind.

This is true.

the last time there was a swine flu epidemic, loads more people died of normal flu. I hear a lot of people can get through swine flu without even needing antiviral medicine.

Hows life in mexico though? any easier?

There are still more people dying of regular flu than Swine Flu. It has even been suggested now that Swine Flu is actually less problematic than regular flu. So, it was a big scare about little, but I think that it shows how much the world IS actually prepared to deal with epidemic diseases.
