You only read that now?

I used to worship that book. In the 80s I put loads of IngSoc propaganda and signed myself off as an official Oceania citizen.

Yup... I'm a youngster.

uh oh. you may have competition Leo.

batten down the hatches.

I need to find a new book to read. One I haven't read before. But what?

(don't say 1984 Leo. Or Animal Farm. Or anything Orwellian).

I'm going to see if there's anything new out there that catches my eye.

Well you've got a lot to learn about Orwell.

Like how his name wasn't George Orwell.

Orwell's real name was Eric Blair, and Nineteen-Eighty-Four is the least of his great works, in my opinion. Check out his non-fiction: The Road To Wigan Pier, Homage To Catalonia or any of his essays, which are arguably his best works.

You spoiled the fun!

Oh well, doesn't matter.

Thanks. May do.

When I was looking through a list of his works the other day, I saw "Dickens, Dali and others". That title caught my eye, so I will see if I can get hold of it as you mentioned essays. Need to see if I can find an online version anywhere.

@loopy leo loopington kasper

lol

my nickname at school was loopyloo, but I'm pretty sure that was just because my surname began with an L. Couldn't possibly be any other explanation.

haha.

Oh thank you Otter.

Right now you're the first person to notice.

How did you know?

I never really had a nickname, other than "that weird kid who comes to school every non-school uniform day in black overalls".

Now in my defence it was not everyday.

I'm currently reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and I've also just bought Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. So yep, I like my dystopian novels too, apparently. Before that I was reading Cornell Woolwich's short crime stories (including Rear Window). I think 70--80 percent of his stories have 'death' in the title. Love his writing style a lot of the time, though! :)
