Dawkins? - ? I dislike him, despite believing in the same things that he does. I think that it's wrong of him to criticise religion, but I think that he's probably only doing it to create hype.

I can understand why he might not be someone's cup of tea, but he is a great biologist otherwise. I saw his lecture on the Purpose of Purpose when he spoke at the U of M.

I myself am indifferent towards the religious beliefs of others, but I have strong feelings when it comes to the separation of church and state. I also oppose fundamentalism such as young earth creationism that ID proponents try to push in science classrooms.

I think he makes a good point about the fact that we tend to bend over backwards to respect religious beliefs that might be harmful. For something that is so strongly intertwined with motive and prejudice, I don't see any problem with questioning or criticizing faith.

Well, it's very predictable of me to read Zen stuff - I'm rereading "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" by Shunryu Suzuki.

Dawkins would be having a field-day here in Ireland right now: Official reports have been released detailing the extent to which the Catholic church here raped, abused, etc young boys and girls over the past 50 or so years. It is absolutely shocking, and damages the already dwindling church here.

Actually, I just read a passage in The God Delusion in which he covers this very issue. Apparantly he is often asked about Ireland and the sex abuse cases in the Catholic Church.

Really? I suppose that he would have heard about the cases alright because he is English. To be honest, the Catholic chuch needs to be revamped. Currently, priests can only be male and they cannot marry or even have a partner. This must change if they want to attract more people. Whenever I go to the UK and see female vicors, I'm reminded of how impractical religion here in Ireland is.

I've read a few books since I've wrote here last. But reading (well almost done with Fiery Cross- by Diana Gabladon) and reading The Winter Sea or something like that- though I can't think of the author right now- but winter and sea are both in the title, that much I know!
