You like them... ... :? I can't say that I've ever taken to their unique style, but isn't one of their albums one of the biggest selling of all time?

They remind m of Fleetwood Mac for some reason, whom i like.

Pink Floyd from the best of times

Postby caroline » Sun Jan 11, 2009 7:29 am

"The Wall" an all-time classic. Shows ya what a little LSD can do for the creative spirit.

Certainly a time of crushing old paradigms and creating new. Glad to have shared the excitement of social change. I lived in San Francisco area during the anti-war riots.

So many cool hippies, so much palpable love and generosity.

A unique time on our planet.

Was Scott McKenzie big back then by any chance? He has that song (called San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)), which was of course on the Forrest Gump s'track.

Yeah...still one of my favorites

Postby caroline » Sun Jan 11, 2009 11:40 pm

Oh yeah, very popular....I still love that song, do you?

"Born to be Wild?"

"Imagine"

"Give peace a chance" "Delta Lady" I love Joe Cocker, Leon Russell.

A magical time.

Then there's the Cash man.

So many great artists and songs.

BTW, do you like Paul Potts? Every time I hear him, I get tears.

Hi Asuka!

Do you like Paul Potts? He was discovered by Simon Cowell. Natural-born classical singer.

He sings so honestly, from the deepest part of his heart.

If you haven't heard him, just look him up on the computer, and you can.

Pink Floyd has GOT to be the greatest band of all time. I wish more bands would have a similar style to theirs. Their movie The Wall was amazing when you consider the era it was made. The animation may not compare to current day stuff, but it was fantastic for its time.

My favorite song would have to be On The Turning Away. Although, currently, Wish You Were Here fits nicely. So many great songs, but the one line that won't ever go out of style is...

"Ooooo I need a dirty woman"..... (Young Lust)

I"m dying to see the Wall! I have never got the chance, but I'm going to see if the local rental store has it. And I LOVE that song "time" by Pink Floyd! AMAZING!! And "money" is pretty cool too. I think that's the name of it. The one with all of the cash register sounds at the beginning.

I wish I had lived during that time!!

Caroline mentioned "imagine" and "give peace a chance" which really got my attention, because I'm completely in love with John Lennon! I was definately born in the wrong era! I'm 18, so yeah, I wasn't even BORN until exactly 10 years and 10 days after Lennon DIED! IT SUCKS! I find it interesting that it was exactly 10 years and 10 days though! No one else does! But I do!

Incorrigible, welcome back dude. Have you any songs for a Floyd 'newbie' like me?; do any of you have any recommendations on that matter?

Caroline, i like Paul Potts and have his first released album. He truly does have a wonderful voice. Wasn't he a hairdresser before turning professional singing? He's one of the few success stories that ever cam,e out of those reality music TV shows. The only other two that I can think of are Will Young and Leona Lewis.

Thanks Chucky! It's good to be back! :D

Well, since you like Fleetwood Mac, I would recommend starting with post Roger Waters material. That would be their last two albums - The Division Bell and A Momentary Lapse of Reason. The style is a bit different, mainly not "LSD driven", lol.

Try listening to High Hopes, On The Turning Away and Learning To Fly. They're all beautiful songs and I would say the best songs from both albums. If you don't like those, then you probably wouldn't like their earlier stuff with Roger Waters. If you do like them, then you might want to listen to songs from The Wall. It's a double album with LOTS of good songs. But it's nowhere near Fleetwood Mac. :P
