United States of Leland

Forget about mental illness for a while and just let loose in here.

United States of Leland

So, has anyone seen this movie? I never get many responses on this forum, but I didn't want to post it anywhere else, because it doesn't go anywhere else, unless I had posted it under my own personal thread. And that would be because i could relate so much to the main character and his view on life...So I just wanted to know if anyone else had seen it.

Urrgh, yes, it appears that no-one has seen it (myself included). I have certainly heard of it though. What is it about?

Take care,
Kevin

Aw, you're like the only person that responds to this junk I post. lol

Well, anyway it's about a guy who has some sort of mental illness, or so it seems, even though I can totally relate to him, but then again i have one. ANYWAY, enough pointless rambling, this young man kills his ex-girlfriends younger brother who is as they put it "retarded", although that isn't the word of choice for most people. But anyway, so it shows a little more about the guy and why he did it, and it was more out of compassion that anything else. It's an extrodinary movie, and I related to the main character in so many ways! It was the first time that I ever heard anyone else, fiction or non, who explained this thing that I feel. It's like when i look at things, I see the sadness in them, even when maybe it isn't really there, or maybe no one else would see it. And I really couldn't believe my ears, because it was as if he was trying to explain it for me or something. I know it's just a fictional movie, but I relaly can't get over that.

Anyway. Sorry for the spill...

It's good that you got something from the movie. I've found that once in a while there's a movie, or a book, or a piece of music that has an effect one me in some way - and even for years afterwards it stays with me.
I haven't seen the film you've spoken of. I've got this huge list of films I always mean to get around to watching. One day I'll get it organised and set out to work my way through them. Of course, until then I'll keep adding more and more films and the list will keep growing and growing...!
Keep moving forward.

I'm CONSTANTLY affected by music, but it's a bigger deal when i find a movie like this, that has this much of an impact on me.

element, thanks for the synopsis on it. Did it have so much of an impact that you are 'afraid' to watch it again? Within the past few years, if I watch a film and am deeply impacted by it, I am somewhat tentative about watching it again. The best example is a film called Akira.
