DOOMSDAY 2012!!!!

Forget about mental illness for a while and just let loose in here.

Hi,

Yeh, I can think of a scientific explanation for that, DarkComrade. What you felt would be the mental version of the physical ailment known as a 'head-rush'. Do you know what a 'head-rush' is? It is where, for example, you stand-up and walk after sitting down for a long time; and then you feel dizzy and fall down. So, during your intense OBE, your brain's activity is mostly focussed on the OBE itself, and all other information is not processed. This is why, when you awake, you fail to remember where you are for a short moment.

Having read all of the replies here, I am of the feeling that OBE's are nothing more than vivid / lucid dreams.

whoops this all kinda left me behind since ive been so busy.

please dont take offence to this cos i really dont mean it in a bad way at all. when you want to write "read" in the past tense it doesnt change. it stays the same, the only thing that changes is that you add the verb "have". so it becomes i have read.

i hope to god that your mother language is not english, cos other wise im gonna feel like such an idiot. anyway please dont kill me lol i just had to say something.

i think it would be pretty cool if the sixth sense existed, but i dont believe in it. when chucky said about reading the electromagnetic field of the other persons brain i couldnt help but think how small the electric signals in the brain are and how short range and weak the field must be. i can see the logic in that but i dont see how its possible.

pretty interesting though, ive got another question. ive just been watching i,robot and what you said just made me think. if the soul exists (it hasnt been proven either way), where do you draw the line. single celled organisms whithout a brain cant have a soul can they. would a machine have a soul if it had an extremely advanced ai, so much so that it was creative and could learn. would that have a soul if it also had hopes and dreams, and the ability tothink like a human.

anyway feel free to tell me what a smart ass i am, maybe then ill shut up about stuff a little. it feels like a negative post but it wasnt supposed to turn out that way so :D

cheesychips4320, if I was a very religious person, then I would probably say that the soul is a human-only thing. However, I don't believe in it at all, so, ignore my answer. I admit that the fields generated by brain-waves would be tiny, but i like the theory all the same! Just be aware that our eyes probably only pick-up around 0.0001% of the stuff that's out there. For example, we can only see a tiny portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, and we cannot see microscopic particles either - That's a whole other world when you go down to that size.

DC is from Belgium. I'm assuming they speak another language, but I could be wrong.

It is a tricky thing to say where ya draw the line! I know whatcha mean. Think about how each cell in yer body acts like it has a little life of it's own. Is the whole person one thing or is the person a system of things? Idk I guess it's however ya wanna look at it!

Meh that's kinda what I think. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it...I think that yer memories and thoughts are shared by yer actual brain and yer soul. Like it goes from one to the other kinda. When yer body dies, then obviously it can't contain yer soul anymore, so yer freed. All those memories and stuff then transfer to the soul so you know what yer earth life was like.

In your opinion, what happens when you die? - Are you conscious and aware like we are now? My opinion is that all feeling and thought ends with death - i.e. It is like a perpetual sleep with no dreams.

Yes, I do find it depressing, and uncomfortable too. I don't want to die, but I'd very much like my life to be a better than it currently is. If I had the option of being immortal, I would definately take it because I want to witness the evolution of the entire Universe and everything contained in it. Do you watch Star Trek? - Do you know the character 'Q' in it? That's who I want to be like!

although i dont admit it very often i think star trek is quite cool. q and the borg are the most interesting things in it i think.

im somewhere in the middle of you guys. i think that as far as your concerned, when you die, thats it and theres nothing. but from there on i cant make up my mind, on one hand imortality would be really cool for the reasons chucky said, but then you would have to wonder what would happen if you got imprisoned or trapped somewhere, and what happens when the universe collapses into the big crunch. on the other hand though, i dont think that there is anything to be afraid of when dying, if you believe there is nothing at all, like me, then you wont care cos you cant, your dead. another reason is that if you believe the opposite to me then you still have nothing to fear because of heaven or the afterlife...

imortality would be very cool tho, by the end of everything you would have seen so much and know so much, maybe you could have even helped to advance humanity with all your expirience and knowledge. sorry lol im starting the, im gonna write down my whole train of thought thing again.

what do you guys think? i guess 2012 wouldnt be a problem for you if you were imortal lol, but, if everyone else died you could get very lonely. right im shutting up now.

Well, I believe that the Universe goes through cycles of Big Bangs and Big Crunches; and that it has been doing this forever. So, nothing could stop me if I was immortal - I would simply exist forever, just as the Universe has done so. Sobering thoughts... ...They 'boggle' the mind.
