Christian Bale is one of my favourites too but I don't think I have seen Empire of the Sun. I loved his role in the Machinist, Equilibrium, and American Psycho. Actually, the book of American Psycho is considerably more gruesome than the film.

Yes the movie was awful after reading the book, but Christian Bale makes it good enough to watch.
