Japanese games hands down.

I'm also a RPG fan. Damn you Sony for not getting exclusivity on PS3 for FF13 and for losing Star Ocean 4...now they'll probably lose me to Xbox 360...ugh.

I test videogames, so I can see what's coming on the market before it does...but I have to keep confidential. Can't reveal game names or developers.

Overall I'd say I like a healthy mix, I wouldn't say either is better than the other because the genres they both concentrate on are typically different. I'm not that big into RPG's, so that knocks out a lot of Japan's biggest titles for me, whereas I enjoy FPS's and sandbox games, which are more American

Although most of my favorite games of all time are Japanese. Zelda, Mario, Shenmue. I like how many Japanese developers are less concerned with online gameplay compared to the single player experience, which is what I care about most.

But hands down, IMO the best gaming developer in the world is Nintendo. Shigeru Miyamoto is genius and the godfather of gaming, when I hear of a game being developed in-house by Nintendo there's never a doubt in my mind it will be wonderful

Problem I got with Nintendo, is their concept of awesome means "family-oriented" (Pokémon, Mario series beyond Mario 64 - and even Mario 64 itself) or totally absurd (Wario Ware Inc series). It has a few good games for hardcore gamers. Super Smash Bros series, and Resident Evil 4 if you like it (I don't like RE games).

Though since Xbox 360 is getting every title...I might go on that one.

Nintendo has made some fantastic series of games. However since the Nintendo 64 all the third party games have been party games and kids games. I honestly dont know what all the fuss is about the Wii.
i think the deal with the wii is that it is affordable, different and fun for group games. I think wii games can be fun, but they dont really have any games that you can get fully absorbed into. I know for me, i am a broke college student, and havent been able to afford a new game system sense all the new syptems came out, so i am stuck having to play older games (ps2 or xbox) until i can eventualy upgrade, i plan on getting a new console this year, i might end up getting a wii cause it is the only thing i can afford, i would prefer a ps3 or xbox360 though cause im not a fan of casual games. I also need new tv. I wish i werent so broke.

I love the Wii, because IMO it's the only one of the three current gen systems that's actually trying to branch out and try new things. Developers are having a hard time figuring out how to properly use the Wii-mote because it's unlike anything they've developed for in the past, but when it's done right it adds a lot to the game. And now with other innovations like the Balance Board we're seeing a level of immersion that's unprecedented in home console gaming. Try playing No More Heroes and tell me that swinging your arm to deliver the blow that cuts your opponent into several pieces (in all its profane glory) isn't fun! :)

Only problem is there's a lot of developers making a lot of crap for the Wii simply because the console is selling so well with casual gamers they don't see the need to take their time with it. But there are developers like Suda 51, Factor 5, Lucasarts, Capcom and a couple others who do appreciate its potential and are taking time to better explore its capabilities (Factor 5 is especially committed to testing its limits). And of course no one can still beat a game developed in-house by Nintendo. Twilight Princess was a remarkable game that fully deserved its choice as Game of the Year by many publications (such as Game Informer), while Mario Galaxies was one of the most imaginative games I've ever played. And while not techincially developed in-house (although watched very closely by guys like Miyamoto), Metroid Prime III and Super Smash Bro. Brawl are both fantastic hard-core games. I just hope people stop buying the crap party games that third-rate developers keep shoveling out!

The big advantage the 360 has for hardcore gamers is Xbox live, but since I couldn't care less about listening to 12 year olds calling me a #######1 for hours on end (I wish i was joking!), it doesn't appeal to me. Although the 360 still has a fantastic library of games, and I'd love to own a 360 if I could afford it. There are really so many games...Lost Planet, Gears of War, Dead Rising, Halo 3, Bioshock....
Plus the 360 is getting most of the same big-name games that the PS3 is getting like GTA IV, Devil May Cry 4, and I can't think of any others at the moment (it's 3:48 a.m., cut me some slack), but there are more I know...:p

I just don't care that much about graphics personally, to me when it comes to entertainment one of the things I look for most is imagination, and I think that's what I love about Nintendo. The 360 and PS3 are both powerhouses that have a hell of a lot to offer, but to me they just don't show that "thinking out of the box" aspect that I love

And I'm not trying to get in the middle of any holy wars here, so if you disagree and think the 360 or PS3 is superior, that's totally fine, no need to get angry! :p

Wow, I just ranted that long about videogames, I need help...

The gaming communities in Eastern Asia are so huge that it's the top gamers who get all the chicks while the rock stars are left in a corner like an old jukebox

The big advantage the 360 has for hardcore gamers is Xbox live

Actually, while it is ONE of its strong points, it is not THE advantage it has.

Advantages of the Xbox 360:

-Tons of very strong third party developers (Square-Enix, Lucas Arts amongst others).
-Now they have a fanbase sort of (due to Xbox before).
-Their system is easy to use for multiplayer.
-Their system is the most graphically powerful, although it doesn't like, *eclipse* the PS3 (like make it seem irrelevant), it is also cheaper than the PS3 (Blue Ray technology is too pricy).
-It has a big hard disk.
-Even more developers are turning to Xbox 360 making the leap from PS2 (who was then the best console). Like Square-Enix deciding to make its games exclusive to Xbox 360 for some.
-PS3 and Xbox 360 have the best online system.
-PS3 has the best controller to hold and handle (even after hours you don't feel it). But Xbox 360 has the second best.

I'm not a fan of multiplayer games. I prefer offline RPGs - and Xbox 360 is cornering the market. Nintendo lost that market way back then with the PS1. Nintendo had a grasp on those RPG developers back in its SNES days, because Genesis was in no way better.
