Get up and sing

Postby MadMel » Wed Jul 09, 2008 8:53 am

I have no computer network at the moment so i am using the local library to post.

Today during my free 1 hour session a childrens playgroup was taking place right next to the place i was positioned at in the library.

The mothers and there children formed a circle and began a singing session, the mothers seemed to enjoy what they were doing more then the children.

My question to you other forum members is.

Could you sing out aloud in the company of others or would you have a phobia like me and would'nt be able to manage it.

Hey,

Singing in groups is something that is required if you attend a Christian school, like I did (even though I'm an Atheist... ...ssssh!) For example, you are required to sing during your Confirmation and Communion ceremonies. I never actually sang during them though because I was nervous / had a phobia.

It might be a different story now though because I don't think I'd have any issue at all singing in a group. Since my youth, I have given many presentations to groups of people and have been told that I am excellent at them and appear very confident. I am 25.

Hey Chucky,

I went to a Catholic school and I'm an athiest too. But I actually enjoyed the school because it had routine and children thrive on routines.
Anyway, I don't mind singing out loud. I often sing along to the radio while at work and I don't care who see's me either!

I have a habit of whistling national anthems without even thinking about it (usually the French one). I also remember once I started singing a John Denver song in the college lab one day and was shocked that a classmate recognised it! Denver isn't too popular here.

My Dad used to listen to John Denver in the car a lot. It brings back memories of singing along in the back of the car while he drove around posting flyers on lamp posts on long country roads everytime I hear it playing.

Hmm, my parents always have 'Country Mix' on the radio whenever we are in the car. So, I am a fairly big country music fan. What would be your favourite John Denver songs?

- Annie's Song?
- Take Me Home Country Road?
- Rocky Mountain High?

I like most of them but I don't often listen as much as I should. They are more memory evokers than anything else. I remember Take Me Home Country Roads and Leaving On A Jet Plane being played a lot

When a group is singing loudly I can sing, but when I'm alone I can't really sing.

With me it depends on the situation and what i had to sing. At work i have known everyone for a long time and am extreemly extraverted there and wouldnt bat an eye at singing in front of them, but most likely i would do it jokingly cause i am a terrible singer. At school, just randomly, i could never do that, id feel like an idiot. At random public places i have burst into song if i have a friend there and usually they would join in but i would never do that alone, and i never sing seriously cause everyone would hate it, lol. I always thought it would funny if life were a musical and people just randomly burst into song.
