The Beatles

So nice to hear the young folk like music from us old-timers.

Norweigan Wood is one of my all-time favorites from Rubber Soul and In My Life from the same.

When I feel silly, Maxwell's Silver Hammer is the jingle I hear.

I'm not sure how much anyone here is into music theory but something very cool about Norwegian Wood is that it is written in a Dorian scale. Pretty cool stuff!

Maxwells Hammer sounds like such a happy silly song, but the words are so contradictory. I love the Beatles. I like the song Day in the Life, because it combines two totally different moods and its just an awesome song.

Music like that will live forever!

Hi, what is the Dorian Scale? Norwegian Wood is great though - I just put it on now.

Who's solo/other work do ye prefer? It's a hard choice between McCartney (with Wings) and Lennon in my opinion. Harrison also has great songs though, especially in Got My Mind Set On You and My Sweet Lord.

It's actually the Dorian mode (my bad, not yours), and it is sort of hard to explain/understand. Let's say the song was in A dorian (I played a song in this key), It is played like G major (with an F#), but "do" or the starting note of the scale/mode would be A. It's weird, but very interesting. I have a book on it...it's actually my dad's but he didn't take it with him when he left so now it's mine. It's really interesting though! (yes, I am a music geek!)

It is a cool song!

I love John Lennon. He is by far my fave for many reasons, but I do love MrCartney and Harrison. I'm not a big fan of Ringo. His solo stuff just doesn't impress me. I'm not a big fan of his vocals really. He should have just stuck to the drums, because he was very good at that. JK I'm not saying he's a bad singer, but it's just not for me.

I love Harrison's My Sweet Lord too, and there a lot of others that I can't remember the names of, but I like them too. I have the last album he put out, and some of it is very good, but I don't think it was his best work. I think he was an amazing guitar player!! I think he wrote and sang While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which is one of my favorite Beatles songs.

I like a lot of McCartney's stuff, but I just don't relate to it in the way that I relate to Lennon's music. He had so many songs that I love and can relate to sooo much!!

I guess all four of them were highly talented, but Lennon is my favorite, partially because of his music and partially because of who he was.

Wow, I've just rambled on and on, but it's hard not to when I'm talking about the beatles. I LOVE the beatles!!

Wow. and now I just realized that I told you the wrong mode. Norwegian wood is written in Mixolydian mode, because "do" is E, but it is played like it's in G major. If you're into music theory, you should look this stuff up because it's really interesting! I have a book on Mixolydian too, and that's probably why I confused the two.

~element (sorry for rambling so much and probably boring you! )

Hey,

Yeh, you're right: While My Guitar Gently Weeps was written by Harrison. He also wrote Something and Here Comes the Sun.

Now, don't take this the wrong way but, I'm not a big fan of Lennon. I don't know what it is about him - I'm just not a fan. I like his music - but not him. My favourite is definately McCartney.

... ...

As I always say, everyone is enttitled to their own opinion, yours just happens to be wrong. I'm just joking of course! If everyone liked the same things, the world would be much more boring than it already is at times. I do love Lennon though.

"Something" is an amazing song too! That is definately some of Harrison at his best. I think he deserved more recognition than he got. I'd say he had some musical genius himself.

McCartney is cool as well. I like that song that goes "Someone's knockin' at the door, somebodies ringin' a bell...". That one always makes me happy. And of course McCartney was responsible for "Let it Be" which is one of the most beautiful songs in the world, and "Yesterday" too. They're all so amazing!!

Yes, music is definately the highlight of my life. I read about music theory and different musicians all of the time, and I devote hours and hours to practicing or just playing my piano, and I'm involved in the chorus at school. I plan to major in music performance, and possibly minor in music theory.

I choose not to choose a favorite.

If you guys haven't ever seen the Magic Christian with Peter Sellers and Ringo Star, the final scene is on YouTube featuring the music of Badfinger.

It became quite the mantra of the 70's generation who despised all the dirty capitalist pigs.

That McCartney song that you're thinking of is called Let em in. My favourite of his, however, is (probably) Band on the Run.

Anyway, I have spent long-enough on this website for now and need a break. Take care and catch you later,
Kevin.

I've heard of that before, but had forgotten about it! If I can find it somewhere, I may watch it (I would watch the YouTube, but my computer doesn't like videos!).
