Children being exposed to Violent Media....

Postby Adam_Maple » Wed Nov 14, 2007 1:56 pm

I read an article a couple of days a go, and it suggested that children who are exposed to violent media then become violent themselves. I found this a little a disconcerning, could it really be true???

I'm surprised you're even wondering whether it's true. Children learn by imitating. What is "playing house"?

Give it an "F' ing break! I watched cartoons and there's nothing wrong with me, wrong with me, with me, me.
I'm not sure that I'm a hypochondriac, but I do have all the symptoms.

Chrissakes, what an F'ing ridiculous question.

Media has nothing to do with kids being violent, its lack of parenting and gang/chav culture (depending on where you're from).

Violent behavior, whether observed first hand or as "entertainment," can lead to violent children especially when there is a lack of parenting to help the child understand the difference between right and wrong/reality and make believe.

There were violent children before television, and there have been violent children who were raised by excellent parents under ideal conditions. There are also children who seem to escape the tendency to violence despite being exposed to all the contributing factors.

Many things can contribute to increase the underlying violent tendencies in behaviorially abnormal children and violent content in games and tv can be one of them.

Best,

N.

Zoe Garcia Killed: Mortal Kombat Style Murder
by Jack Ryan

A 7-year-old Colorado girl by the name of Zoe Garcia has been brutally beaten and killed after her big sister Heather Trujillo and Her boyfriend Lamar Roberts mimicked a video game's violence.

Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Trujillo, 16 were babysitting Heather's little half-sister Zoe Garcia then they decided to beat the little girl with 'Mortal Kombat moves'.

Both Roberts and Trujillo are being charged as adults after brutally beating Zoe, leaving her broken body with more than 20 bruises, a broken wrist, swelling of the brain, bleeding under her spine and in her neck.

According to a police affidavit, on Dec. 6th, Roberts and Trujillo kicked and hit and body-slammed Zoe until she lost consciousness and stopped breathing. They broke an egg in Zoe's mouth to see if she was "messing" with them when she wasn't moving or breathing and tried to revive her by putting her under running water. They also attempted CPR.

Zoe hadn't been breathing for 15 minutes before the teens finally called 911.

The girl died at a hospital.

I love it when people get so positively emotional when they defend violent media.

I'm sure you've all seen the first "Scream" film...well I recall one of the killers using a phase somewhere along the lines of "movies don't create psychos, movies just make psychos more creative". And there is a strong element of truth in that. Somebody who has a natural capacity for violence can be influenced by watching violent movies, playing violent games etc...

However to suggest that it can influence the majority is somewhat idiotic, since people with a predisposition to violence are in the minority due to different brain structure.

It is absolute #######4 petitioned by the religious right concerned primarily with legislating their morality all the way down our throats.

Well religion has a lot to answer for when it comes to morality in general. When you look back at history (long before the so-called violent media existed), the vast majority of barbaric, violent acts, were committed by fanatical religious groups.
