media in general is getting more violent and can have some effect but the pathology has to be there first I think. Some normal kids see violence aren't affected but others with issues probably get ideas and fun out of it. Kids are watching more and more stuff and what is normal has shifted. Simpsons is full of adult content and bbc has a kids programme where swearing is acceptable so times are a changing. Religion has a whole lot more to answer for in my book and is not censored but promoted!

I wonder when the first act of what would be deemed "violent" occurred and, if we could delve into the brain of that person, what intent we would find? I think a lot of violence stems from wanting things very badly and doing anything to get these things. Not all violence stems from this though.

Hmm, not sure if it directly affects children.

TV is one of the many things nowadays which, when combined, are contributing to the general decay of the good societical values which existed a number of decades ago. I am 25 now and am genuinely worried about how bad society will become when the current generation of 13 - 18 years olds are adults.

I find that playing violent games, putting on some angry music, or just seeing disturbing/violent pictures or movies actually stops any urge I may have to be violent (though I'm only ever actually violent towards myself or inanimate objects; I care far too much about the welfare of others to be violent towards them).

If violence in the media influences a person to go and commit a violent crime, there was something wrong with that person in the first place.

I think that maybe those children that feel that they are never heard, or are really shy, or always picked on, or something, view the more outgoing, aggressive, and brave (even violent) people on TV as their desire to be more liek everyone else. Therefore they may see the TV as a way to express something that they are not. Also, for the very pained and bitter child, TV can provide methods to retaliate, unfortunately.

True, but the point is that the game / movie gives the person ideas about how to carry-out their hideous urges. Films such as Goodfella's and The Godfather also glamourise the lifestyle of a criminal.

Look, you are obviously intelligent and are capable of watching these films and playing these games without having urges (As you said, they actually remove any urges that you have). However, there are countless really stupid people out there who's minds are 'warped' by movies and games.
