Taking up Hunting

For years friends of mine have poked fun of me because I don't own a gun and I don't go hunting with them. They own lots of guns and go hunting all the time. So I decided to start a new hobby and join them sometimes, I bought a gun and will get into hunting. All my neighbors go hunting. Where I live if you don't own a gun or hunt people make fun of you.

Wife is all upset I bought a gun to go hunting. I got think of fun hobbies like hunting to escape from realities of life.

Lot of folks live for that first day of Deer/Turkey/Dove/Bow Season- doesn't super appeal to me but I wasn't brought up in it. What caliber you get? What your wife not like about it? Cute animals involved, or hoplophobia?
