The Official Blizzard Thread.

Postby octopustentacles » Sat Jan 19, 2019 1:03 am

Have you been or will you be or are you right now in a blizzard? Share your stories here!

How do YOU personally prepare yourself for a blizzard ? Or, might you just get drunk and not make preparations of any sort?

This reminds me of my last blizzard when the power went out before the blizzard came and my neighbor knocked on my door and asked why the hell was the power out when the blizzard hadn't even started.

I said I didn't know. But the power was out for 3 days that time. No heat so I had to haul me and my animals out to my moms. She has a big gas fireplace.

Anyways, you can also share your DQ blizzard stories in this thread if you'd like. (I know some smartass will) :D

And now for something entirely different.
The young have aspirations that never come to pass, the old have reminiscences of what never happened.

Well. Sort of humdrum so far. Not as much snow as predicted...but its hard to say since the foot of snow we got a few days back never melted much. It will be cold and windy though. The power I hope stays on.

I like snow in general. Most adults don't. Even when I had a car, I liked it.

I love blizzards. Sometimes I feel a little guilty for spending all my time in the house, so when I'm snowbound, at least I have an excuse.

It's also nice because I live in a city and hate street noise. Bad weather keeps everyone off the streets. I like the fact that everyone has to stay inside like me. It's comforting. I wait for blizzards to watch some of my favorite movies, like The Shining or The Hateful Eight.

The best part is the day after when I watch my seventy year old slumlord landlord shoveling the sidewalk in front of the building while I sit at the window sipping tea. I actually like to shovel snow. I like making snowbanks out of it, or sometimes I'll throw it in one big pile and see how many weeks it takes to melt. But not for him. Next blizzard I should go out and shovel the sidewalk in front of the building across the street.

Winter is more than half over, though. Hopefully we'll get at least one catastrophic snowstorm this year.

I was drawn to this thread because I misread it as The Official Bizzare Thread'
But I have a blizzard story, albeit a boring one.
Last year I was blizzard house bound for three days. Loved the fact there were no demands to do anything or go anywhere. And I had the house to myself. Yes, I was unprepared... no bread or milk... but it was worth it. It was like being on another planet for a while, and hard to snap back to reality once normality resumed.
Physically, being in snow is refreshing. I Like it, when I do not have to drive in it.

I have experienced blizzards, they are beautiful, soft and powerful at the same time. I like all natural phenomenons.

Any sort of extreme weather makes me panicky and anxiety ridden. Not so much for myself ( although tornadoes scare the hell out of me) but I have 2 old sick animals to take care of and Im stuck in a dive apartment with no car.

I worry about them both in a major OCD way, so, ya. I am also completely unable to remain calm in stressful situations. Im just like my mom....I freak out.

When I was a young single mother and in a demanding job, I liked going to the hospital for the same reason. There was nothing expected of me except to lie there and get better.
It was like a little vacation.

No blizzard here but it's raining like crazy.
