Why do some parents get mohawk haircuts for their kids?

I'm 26, and I had to think a while to remember what cultural significance could make a haircut inappropriate for a child. I assume you're thinking punk culture?

In any case, it just might be an age thing, people my age are parents, they might not remember/assign significance to the hair, other than "Hey look! This is fun!". I feel that way when I do my own hair, I suppose it's possible these parents do too.

More likely, in my opinion, they don't care/know about possible negative connotations associations to this (and other) hairstyle(s)

Perhaps they're trying to project onto their kids the punk credibility they so sorely lacked as teenagers.

My son wanted one a couple of years back, I asked him over and over if it's what he really wanted and he said yes. So I gave him one, 1 month in he asked it to be cut off. He tried it and I left him, he was 12.

I feel as a parent I need to give my kids some room to decide what they want and how they want to represent themselves. I will not allow them to do anything that will hurt them, but a haircut isn't a huge deal. Hair grows and can be cut.

For the lands there you see this are afalling. As to the grimly token of this kind of hair, peradventure the elders that suffer it will in all their lives learn what truly comes of bestiality. If we yield worship to them, they may have thought of a spark that many hundred year ago our kind from a grimly state went, but know not why; if not, they may not thereof have thought; either way, they may meet more than a thing of speech. When they do not hear god, the folk will become liker wild men by the day. As a man that is twenty six here said, he does not know why men would not do a thing if it be pleasant. The bible will tell him many reasons. In the world are wild men with grimly hair, and he does not understand why they are sinful. He is green and unwise, so he wishes to follow the wild men; for he has not seen them to be rude and rough, and he does not know what a world is like there where all men are rude and rough, and all is disordinance. He does not know what such is like, and why his forefathers like wild men did not set themselves forth. Like servants of the devil he sets his children forth, and thus they likelier will the devils work do. To his children he should say, "No that is the hair of heathens, and heathens will go to hell." Woe his god is only mirth, and worse he dwells among his natural foes. Do you know what's worse? Teenagers who gel their hair into a ridge and think they have a mohawk but haven't shaved off the sides. We used to call them Hot Topic mohawks. In this situation it's good to remember that most hair gels are flammable.

It's just to let them experience what it's like, no biggie. You can always cut it off.
