In 1770 Bourbon was still 13 years off from being invented. But I live in 2024 (which is a number that is still coming - duh, but I have a hard time with sequential numbers), and although I don't booze but a few times a year, I think I might have me a glass tonight.

*sigh*

1771 is a palindrome! In the summer of this year, Joseph Priestley discovered that plants breathe out "clear air".

1773: the artist Anne Vallayer-Coster finished her "Portrait of a Violinist". Women painters portraiting other women are not talked about enough when we talk about art!

In 1774 a sand castle (which the builder named “Byrweld”) was swept away by the incoming tide.

1775 -During a single wicket cricket match in May, Lumpy Stevens, bowling, beat John Small at least three times only for the ball to pass through centre of the wicket, which at that time still consisted of two stumps and a single bail crosspiece. This led to calls for the introduction of a third stump to make it impossible for the ball to pass through the centre of the wicket. This is why the very important, very central to the scenario, wicket of the "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books is composed of four pieces. Because of something that happened two centuries prior to the writing of the books. The more you know...

Zaphod Beeblebrox is known to have referenced the name Lumpy Stevens 1776 times (and counting) during his life, thus far.

Also, in 1776 some white guys declared their independence from other white guys.

1777 is the year drunkard Jean Meyon saw his wife disguised as a ghost and got scared into sobriety for the rest of his life. If you scroll up a bit you'll see the link I already posted about this french legend. :)

1778 was a bad year for geography. The state of Wyoming hadn't yet been invented, so the Colonists fought the British over it in Pennsylvania instead.
