What's your religion?

Forget about mental illness for a while and just let loose in here.

Pegged me pretty close but hey, I'm an American. It's not like we're exactly a sophisticated bunch.

That is.... very disturbing. Belonging to a sect that has a confessional to a cleric, but not allowed to go do so after you've had your sinfuless pointed out to you. As a child. I'll join Ell in having issues with Momma EM.

Been a long time- well, only once, actually- that I've been to a Passion Play. There is (I assume still is- it's gone on for decades) a famous one held every year in Lake Wales, Florida. I remember once a vanload from my church, when I lived in the Sunshine State, of us going to see it. Was great.

Aww. crap. No, the original ended in 1998. One of Florida's lost tourist attractions, like Cypress Gardens. Sad. I so miss Old Florida. 21st Century sucks.

Cypress Gardens. Now the GoGo's 'Vacation' is on endless mental loop....

Well that was the school's fault really. And RC in general. You are not allowed to go to confessional or take communion if you are not catholic. (however c of e do allow catholics to take communion in their churches). I think my mother wanted me to go there because of it's academics. Church schools are seen as better standard here. And ofc, I refused to do the scholarship test for private school, so what choice did she have. So I didn't have to worry about not fitting in with the rich kids, but I had to worry about being the wrong denomination. There's always something..

Ofc I did go to confession once. ofc I did. I snuck in. On discovery of my deceit (which of course was my 3rd in my list of 3 confessions "I am not catholic, I should not be in here" lol), got told to say 10 hail mary's for my isolence and GIVEN a rosary bead. For free. Luck! Lol. That taught me you get given free gifts when you do bad things. Not quite what they would've hoped would be my interpretation, but there you go. I think their prejudice and rigid rules backfired big time there with me. Or maybe they were rewarding my honesty. That would be a first! Either way, I had always wanted one of those beads, so that was a nice surprise.

I'm not naturally inclined to doing wrong; only when I see it as a huge miscarriage of justice.

I also had half a communion wafer my best friend decided to give me. It really wasn't worth the wait. Now if it had been a jaffa cake..

I'm hungry now.

Going to read up more on Ethical Culturalism, with a cup of cha and some toast.

Ok you snuck into the confessional and got punished by being told and or given the accoutrements of the religion you are in trouble for participating.....

My head hurts.

I've been to Mass exactly once. As a kid, the Evil Stepmothers not at all evil mother- my adopted abuela- I spent the night with before a trip to Disney and I wanted to go to church with her so we went to the early morning service. Let's see, Vat II put the mass in the vernacular, right? So maybe it was in Spanish? I dunno. Anyway it was different.

MY beef... If I enjoyed grudges... Would be when evil steppy had to be married in the Catholic church to a frankly atheist papa Snaga, momma Snaga got some kind of correspondence invalidating their marriage in the eyes of The Church? Um, no, I don't think so. Mama Snaga was not amused. I recall years later in my computer tech days working on a PC at a RC diocese and happening upon WP files, letters sent out to explain the previous marriage invalidation process that doesn't change the legitimacy of the children involved, etc etc etc . Um, no. This protestant says you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either my mom and dad were married, or I'm a bastard. You can't have it both ways so suck it. Only beef I have with them, really. If I'm surfing past the religious channels on the dish, I'm much more likely to stop on EWTN than any of the evangelical channels. The catholic channel is much more creditable than watching God's your sugar daddy, or Jim Bakker hawking prepper food to idiots. Damn Jim retire already.

Hahahaha you're funny EM

I love the bit about your mum howling over the absence of the crucifixion on TV on Good Friday. Yeah how unforgivable of them to not be depicting some poor b*stard being horribly tortured to death (in the most brutal & heinous way possible) on TV, for the viewing pleasure of all the family. Kids aren't mentally screwed up enough these days I say.

Sorry - I did the religious test first & I've got my angry (OCPD justice) hat on over the homosexuality question. As if gays & lesbians don't have a hard enough time without some test asking people to make a judgement call over whether a gay person's life is immoral or not. Screw that, I hate that bigoted prejudiced stuff, it's disgusting.

I did do the godless test & came up 100% iconoclast, agnostic & transhumanist. I disagree with that. I'm an atheist, not agnostic. An atheist just means without religion. It doesn't mean the denial of god. I don't believe in god, but I'd never deny the possibility that he might exist, if there was some strong scientific evidence to back that up. That doesn't make me agnostic (i.e. undecided). I'm not undecided. I'm almost certain there's no god but the fact is, no one knows. Anything's possible. Quantum physics even throws a question mark over reality itself.

Hell, the universe could have been created by an invisible pink bunny in a tutu for all we know, doesn't make me 'undecided' if I stay open to that possibility.

Sorry Snag, I'm really sorry. I'm not pissed at you at all. You got me on a bad day & this is one of my rare justice sore points. I need to go take some deep breaths & get the hell over it :(

Mine does most of the time. Confusion all around.

Mixed messages are no good. Direct, consistent, with a LOUD "are you listening, we are about to begin" when caveats, and adapations arise.

I'm not opposed to change, I just like to be aware or forewarned that it's happening. Seem to be without the part of the brain that allows me to work that out for myself, so precise language please, directly in my ear hole. Preferably not loud hailer (muffles sound) or tannoy (public humiliation is not really my bag).

Another thread I've rambled on.

What's new.

QP: If it's invisible, how do you know it's a pink bunny in a tutu. :? But if it was, I'd settle for that. Sounds like my kind of God. Or something I'd see in the ink blot. Either way, liking it very much as a god; in the absence of Sean Bean, or Captain Jack Sparrow

I always think of tv evangelists as hypnotist con men.

They know they are rubbish con men, but great at hypnotising the susceptible.

Aw I'm so sorry S. I'm really sorry.

LOL re the political spectrum test. Maybe also polyamory v monogamy test? That's always a fun discussion. Usually ends with pictures of hippos   .

EM - re the invisible ballerina bunny - good point, good point. All I can think of is, maybe they could smash a couple together & look for remnants, like with the Higgs Boson in the LG Hadron collider. Although, I like bunnies. I wouldn't want it getting hurt, even if it is homophobic lol 8) . Sorry. Sorry. Bad bad Ell1e.

I dunno if Sean Bean would get me out of bed for Sunday mass, but I'd totally be up for worshipping Capt Jack Sparrow.
