One time, I was feeding her and I didn't shut her enclosure after she took her rat because she's usually too busy to go anywhere, and I had another rat ready for when she was done.
Except that time, she set down her rat as soon as she saw me moving and slithered out of her enclosure towards me full of anticipation and excitement.
I started waving my hands trying to signal for her to stop while saying, "No! Mummy is not your dinner!"
Unfortunately, she doesn't have ears and the movement was just a tantalizing display of a much larger delicacy.
She chased me across the living room until I found a throw blanket to toss over her head.
____________
She did it again a few years later.
That time, as she set down her rat and started to slither towards me, I grabbed the dead rat by it's tail, so I could dangle it between me and her, so she'd take it and leave me alone.
She grabbed it but set it down seconds later.
I grabbed the rat again, but that time she had a strong hold of it with her tail - yet she was still trying to go towards me.
We were left in a wrestling match over the rat (me tugging away on its tail while her bottom end was constricted around its neck); all the while, she was still looking at me like I was delicious.
Once I pried the rat away from her, she bit down on and wrapped around it and finally decided she'd forsake me and make do with it as a meal.
____________
It's one of the cutest things I've ever seen (more so, the first time).
I didn't know if I should be impressed with what a brave fierce little predator she is..
Or if I should question how her species can survive in the wild if they identify something too big for them to kill and eat as prey. She's small (4.5 feet).
