RPG games, anybody...?

Regrettably, I've never had the chance to play FFT cos I live in England, and it never got a release here. PLayed FFT Advance to death, tho, although I here the story isn't as good.

FFXII should be out in England sometime in Nov/Dec. I'm looking forward to Tales of the Abyss, tho, releases in October.

I got Star Ocean 3 and I found it very basic and VERY boring. I got to the first world, 15th century style, it was pretty fun. Finished that, hoped for a cool new time period. What do I get? A 16th century world...¬_¬....a little variety would be nice! It's just too predictable an RPG. "Fayt Leingod"??? Could it be more unoriginal?

Anyone play Grandia? I won 1 and 2, but I hear 3 is basic. Great attle system, but poor everything else.

Uh, yeah, SO3 blew hard. The only reason I play it anymore is because I'm a sucker for real-time battles, the bonus dungeons, and item creation.

Heh, I can't say I've ever finished an RPG, but I like them. Final Fantasy is always good, my favorite is 9. Absolutly love it!

I'm not much of a gamer, but I do role play a lot -- on message boards and stuff^^

"I'm not much of a gamer" -- this is my brothers fault. When we were younger, he never let me play a game by myself, he always wanted to go two player because he was better than me. He squashed my gaming spirit. lol
I love ...roses

Couldn't agree more about Grandia. I never played the first, but Grandia 2 was a lot of fun, (carried ONLY by the battle system.) I sort of discovered an exploit though where I gave one of the characters superior dodging abilities combined with an ability that lures all enemy attacks in their direction. By the last third of the game, only magic attacks could hit me, and because of the charge time, you can see those coming a mile away. I also played Grandia Xtreme which, despite the same battle system as 2, was not nearly as much fun because everything else had gotten worse. The final dungeon took me 4 hours with no save points, and that includes me skipping a large portion of the fights since I had to get to bed. Terrible design.

On a side note, the biggest problem I had with Final Fantasy Tactics was keeping my party experienced enough to be capable of winning the battles. Eventually it caught up with me, and the second-to-last fight in the game was, as far as I could tell, completely unwinnable for me. And at that point you're not allowed to back out and look for fights on the overworld to boost your experience.

I thought the story in Grandia 2 was pretty good, although I was never a big fan of Ryudo (I usually love Cam Clarke as a voice actor, but dammit, he pissed me off bad in this one...). I thought Melfice was pretty badass tough.

I played this other RPG that I bought a few days ago, Ephemeral Fantasia. It's okay, there's a little guitar playing thing that's kinda like DDR style stuff, but aside from that, it sucks.

Ephemeral Fantasia has been the butt of a lot of jokes between me and my brother. I ignorantly snatched the game up within a month or so of its release (paying $50) and knew a couple minutes in that I'd made a big mistake. I actually don't know how good the game eventually gets because I stopped playing it very early. My brother got a little further than I did but he hated the game too.

Going back to Grandia 2, the problem with Ryudo's character was that he was so erratic. His bad moods and temper tantrums were so frequent and random, and in the end only made it seem confusing when he would suddenly act sensitively, (only to become a jerk two seconds later.)

I got as far in Ephemeral Fantasia as when you realise you will be playing the same five days. Over and over...

If you can get a hold of the first game, I recommend it. It's not as refined as it's sequel, but it's worth playing. Although I might think that simply because it was about the first RPG I finished.

Whoa, seriously? I had the reverse problem; story battles were a complete breeze and the random battles were what I had to look out for.

Yeah, I was pretty dumb to let it happen looking back. I don't remember the specifics anymore, but at some point there is a one-on-one battle where your main character has to go head to head with a boss. It took me many tries, and the only reason I ever won was because he missed several attacks in a row. That should have been a hint.

I think I know which battle you're talking about, and to be fair that's always a toughie.
