Anime Anyone?

Postby battousai » Tue Jul 18, 2006 5:45 am

I was just wondering if anyone else here watches anime or reads manga ^_^ I know I love both; it's something that while I'm watching/reading I don't think about all the bad stuff. It's pretty much turned into a complete obsession at this point (you should see my room...). My absolute favorite series of all time are Rurouni Kenshin and Inuyasha. I also enjoy watching Naruto (non-dub), Fullmetal Alchemist, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Trigun, Gundam SEED, and Cowboy Bebop, among many, many others. Even my dad looks forward to watching Inuyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist! So, is anyone else here a fan?

I used to faithfully watch Inuyasha with my husband. Liked it very much. Apart from that, I only watched some of the very big anime movies like "Ghost in the Shell", but don't know any of the current series.

When I was much (muuuch) younger, I liked Sailor Moon (the European version with the cool techno soundtrack) and even the series about schoolgirls playing volleyball. Before that, my memory is foggy.

Cheers,

Dragonfly.

Ahhh, anime. The best anime is the Animatrix, followed by Neon Genesis Evangelion and Full Metal Panic.

At one time I was planning to go to Tokyo after graduation with some friends. After I went to Anime Expo in early June, however, I decided it was probably not a good idea.

Example occurrence at AX: I saw a comic book laying on a table, I went over there, picked it up, and turned to a random page. Lo and behold, the most graphic yaoi I could have possibly encountered. :x

yaoi sucks if you're not prepared for it. I don't mind it sometimes, if it's just gentle stuff, not the harder end of the spectrum.

I watch Naruto now and then, but usually I prefer manga. I finished reading Death Note recently, it was pretty damn good. But generally I like lighter stuff like Negima, Drgonball, Whistle! etc.

I went an expo in London at the start of June dresses in an Akatsuki cloak from Naruto with my friend. It was rollocking good fun!

Bwah, I love anime. I attend Fanime in San Jose California every year, and am a member of an anime IRC channel. It's great. My favourites include Hellsing, I My Me Strawberry Eggs, and Ai Yori Aoshi. I like the Ranma1/2 manga, but not the anime. The voices bug me. There are many I still mean to watch, I didn't actually watch much until recently. I used to strictly read manga. I'm cosplaying as Seras Victoria from Hellsing at Fanime either this year (2007) or next year (2008).

good choice, A.Madele!

Me and my friend are probably gonna go to the next one dressed as Light and L from Death Note, although they aren't especially difficult to do.

Or maybe Kisame and Itachi from Naruto....that would be hard. Kisame is a shark-man...

Thanka. =P I need to lose a lot of weight before I can pull it off -well-... fortunately for me I'm in a sorta forced not-eating mode. -.- Bleh, I like food too much to not eat, but the insomnia for the last several weeks has made me eat like a bird.

I tried to convince my best friend to dress up as Genma from Ranma1/2 with me as girltype Ranma. Didn't work. xD I've never actually seen Death Note or Naruto, but from what I've seen of the Narutards at Fanime, I would rather avoid the latter... xD

Naruto's a fairly basic manga, not especially deep or anything, but it's damn fun. It's better at the beginning, if you read any of it, read the section with Haku and Zabuza, it's brilliant.

What people are worried about is that it's turning a little towards being simply Dragonball Z with ninjas. But at the moment, it's getting damn exciting.

Death Note is definately worth reading. It can get a little stale at times, I ended up skipping a lot of dialogue at one point, but it contains poignant comments about human nature. Plus, L and Light are about the coolest manga characters ever IMO.

i can't say I've read a great deal of Ranma, I know the basics of it, and I've heard it's more or less just a collection of short stories.

Have you read any Osamu Tezuka stuff? Buddha is amazing!

More or less when it comes right down to it, yeah, Ranma is primarily comprised of short stories, but that's part of what makes it great. You don't -really- have to read it in too strict of an order, and the characters are funny. It -does- have a plot underneath that, though.

Yeah, that's what it always looks like to me. Ha, I remember when Dragonball Z was 'cool.' So was Pokemon. I was obsessed with Pokemon, but I didn't even realize it was anime. There only seven thousand pokemon now? -.-;

I'll look into it when I get home from Texas. I live down the street from a comic shop and two book stores. Plus the library, but I can't find it because it's damn confusing, those streets. Considering I walk a lot, it's kind of funny.

Osamu Tezuka? Can't say I have.

Pokemon doesn't seem like anime to me still, it's almost in a league of it's own because it's been so greatly commercialised. But I confess, I still love it for the nostalgia factor. Me and a friend watched all these old tapes he had of old episodes for like a day.

I quite like the Dragonball and dragonball Z manga, but the anime is soooooo drawn out. The frieza saga alone is 25 episodes.

Tezuka is pretty much the father of manga. He started off with Astro Boy way back, you might have heard of it. He did Black Jack in the late 80's, that's probably my fave of his. I've gotten more into reading older manga like that, Kinnikuman is another old one I like, although it's not Tezuka.
