Anime Anyone?

<--------

What starts out as a run-of-the-mill mech anime with annoying religious overtures (subtly loses) steadily turns into a deep and dark psychological drama. Add the total mindf*ck in which the series ends, you can't lose.

.....

Not a huge mech fan, but do you mean Evangelion? I've always wanted to watch that....

Watched Metropolis yesterday. It's damn good.

Yeah. That's what I like about Eva, though. It steadily becomes more about how messed up the characters are than mech action. You can buy the entire series for less than 50 bucks now, with the platinum edition out. Or just do Netflix or something.

Evangelion= complete and total awesomeness. Enough said. I thought it was a little slow for the first episodes, but then it just got sooooo good....

Death Note is one of my favorite manga! I also just finished it. I like the complexity of Raito's thoughts, and of course the awesomeness that is L. I agree that it does have the tendency to get boring in parts, but then it usually ends up revealing some big plot point so I read all of it anyway... Me and two of my friends went to a con back in May, where we were the completely mis-matched cosplay group (I was L, one friend was Luffy, and the other was Miroku...), and I ended up posing with a Death Note group that was missing L :)

I've been into anime and manga for nearly a decade now, methinks... but I still haven't watched Evangelion yet. O= *le gasp* Actually, come to think of it, I'd been an anime fan for about 5 or 6 years before I even watched Akira...

I don't watch anime or read manga as much as I used to, but some of my favourite anime include Excel Saga, Serial Experiments Lain, Grave of the Fireflies, Vandread and Princess Mononoke. I can't really remember what my favourite manga were, 'cause I haven't read any in so long... ho well. I recently watched Puni Puni Poemi, which is totally bonkers, and I thought it was great, but the only problem was that it was too short. And there's no way it deserved an 18-rating, IMO... I mean, compared to something like Urotsukidouji (which I first saw when I was 8  Oopsie), it was so tame! Meh...

I also love Kanno Yoko's music! I don't think I've heard anything by her that I haven't liked, actually. I've got the soundtrack for Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna, despite the fact that I haven't seen the anime, and it's fantastic.

As for Pokemon, I remember the days when you could get it subtitled on VHS... *ahh, happy memories* that was before the butchered version got popular. I remember being so surprised when I first heard about it being aired on UK TV... I watched it religiously (even went to the cinema to see the first movie!) until I found out just how chopped up and mangled the 4Kids version was. I was most annoyed. Then I moved on to the chopped up version of Dragonball Z XD; heh. I don't really watch dubs any more to be honest, mostly because the voice acting tends to be so bad (the pronounciation of Japanese names tends to be awful too - I've heard 'Kaede' being pronounced more like 'Katie' before! >_<; Owch).
At last the 1998 show!
The ballet on the burning stage!
The documentary seen upon the fractured screen!
The dreadful poem scrawled upon the crumpled page!

I've watched anime, although I'm not a huge fan. I prefer stuff like Wicked City to a lot of the new stuff I've seen around.

Me! Yep, been a fan for a long time. Although these days I haven't seen anything new. I am curious to see "The Coyote Ragtime Show" it looks gorgeous and seems to have a similar feel to Cowboy Bebop. Unfortunately it hasn't been licensed yet but I'm assuming by now fansubs should be available.

Ranma!

Postby alycorn » Sat Dec 09, 2006 6:31 pm

I've watched a lot of the classics, and love Ranma 1/2 - as for the voices - ALWAYS get subtitled!!! Or at least the option :-)
All my animes have vanished in the last couple moves I made though :-( I had everything in a box when I moved from my last apartment in with my mom, and I thought it was in the den...but somebody put it somewhere and I don't know where - I've searched the house, the attic and the storage unit now(though maybe not as thoughly as I need to), and can't find them. Living with my boyfriend(fiance *grin*) now and would like to introduce him to anime. Gotta find that box!

I have a very large collection of anime and have to say that the best series I have ever seen have been Hellsing, Gasaraki and the Ninja Scrolls.

Although nothing, and I mean nothing will ever beat the grand-daddy of all anime:
