Twitter and Instagram are the most addictive for me, but I think that I control it

it's mostly just reward chemical release that i'm after, but my rocky social life explains the upper two; gaming in particular is a really messed-up attraction for me, i actually can't understand much of what makes it fun outside the addiction and i supposed it'd be much less fun without an addiction involved.

gaming was really terrible for me, but i'd fall into it anyway, eventually i deleted every game i had and now i'm having this argument of an internal monologue to just reinstall all of them, since even THINKING about them triggers an addictive response...

It does take a lot of work to deal with the cravings . I also had to re-train my brain as to what it considers "fun" .

I'm addicted to slot machines . After I quit , it seemed like an eternity before anything other than gambling registered as enjoyable . My brain was so swamped by an overdose of feel-good chemicals from the slots addiction that any other activity was as boring as watching paint dry . If I wasn't gambling , I felt numb .

It took a few months for my dopamine levels to return to normal , and a few months after that to experience a pleasure-response to normal things . For a while , it felt like I was looking at my life through a pair of dark sunglasses . It slowly got better and it feels "right" now .

I relapsed once after 6 months . Of course , that one moment of giving in to the urge shot those chemical levels back up through the roof and the recovery process had to be started all over again .

Best to have alternative distractions to turn to . Do you read ? Having a good book on hand helped me out tremendously . I bargained with my addiction - I could go and gamble but first I had to read one chapter . By the time I was into the third page , the urge started fading enough for my rational mind to regain control .

Every video that's on there. I spend a total of complete months, looking at videos regarding every possible thing. Having headphones and nobody to talk to, I could simply spend every second of my life behind the computer and die here, not many would notice.

I look these pathetic shows about people whose lives I don't even want, I would rather die than be any of the despicable creatures on House of Cards, but I am in a tunnel. I take whatever comes my way. I did not design these TV shows and there isn't a single video or song on youtube that perfectly relates to me. But I am stuck in that little world. I have wasted so much time looking at empty images, I want to get rid of my eyes and ears. I don't know what to do.

Hi Maxsz ,

Have you tried getting off line and finding other stuff to do ? Internet addiction is absolutely a growing problem these days . You need a solid strategy to wean yourself off of it .

Sometimes I have to make myself go outside , even if it's only for a walk to the store . The funny thing is , once I'm actually out there , I really enjoy it .

I have to read the news multiple times a day to make sure I'm not missing breaking news. I have to be there as soon as something big happens right from the start. When they were looking for the Boston bomber, I was in a frenzy. I had the TV on behind me and I was reading twitter reports from Boston.com and began posting it on Facebook. Three other people joined in we were all posting the latest news. I remember when they said they were going to stop looking for him and then I heard on TV that shots were fired and went into a frenzy again posting on Facebook. I was addicted to Facebook, until my obsession with Netflix began.

Hi Jes, may I ask what it is about the Netflix website you like so much? I have Netflix service and I'm intrigued. Feel free to PM me, if that's your preference.

To keep on-topic, I don't use any social media like Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, etc. However, I choose "Social" because I like forums similar to this website. I the structural format of forums and there seems to be a forum out there for almost any interest. Also, mental illness isn't openly discussed IRL due to stigma....so it's great that mental health forums (like psychforums!) exist.

Instagram for sure, so many pages so easily accessible and the explore page is completely based around your interests/what you like most! Super addictive

Wow, I think I'm like only the second person to mention V. I couldn't care less about porn, gaming, gambling, social sites, etc. But I lurv me some google and wikipedia. I am endlessly searching out new knowledge. I do frequent a couple of forums (this one mostly), but I wouldn't say I was addicted to them. It's curiosity that drives me. Meow :)

First, I'm addicted to forums. I need to journal and connect for emotional support. Then there's Googling things to see if anyone can relate or has written an article about it. I'm also addicted to YouTube for politics and self help. I'm starting to get addicted to my blog. Not really into Facebook but I check it at least twice a day and I never game.
