Thinking about it there have probably only been 2 or 3 people my entire life that I enjoyed having long talks with - not girlie ones either, always heavy stuff because the people I am attracted to tend to be heavyweights and I can't do chit chat.

It was different when I was a student and travelling - I used to meet a lot of interesting people but now they are mainly suits.

Sorry, breakdown in lingo here - What or who are 'suits'? I'm interested to know what you talked about in your lengthy conversations too. I've never had one. I do'nt think I've ever had a conversation with someone that lasted more than 5 minutes. They fizzle out rapidly and I just want to get away.

lol.... sorry Chucky (I am really bad at communicating aren't I?) I think the term 'suits' is derogatory but it can mean different things to people. For me, it isnt a sexist thing it just refers to people who are just so up themselves that there is nothing there to connect with on any level. Other people may define the term as anyone with power i.e. the establishment.

It depends but I rarely have long, lengthy conversations with men they have always been with females and usually about some esoteric subject or feelings. But, like I said, people that I connect with like that are rare and I don't do lengthy conversations either. With my partner I try to talk to him on a deeper level but it is just impossible and people I work with I try not to get into conversations with them because I know they will just drive me bonkers.

You surprise me though Chucky because you sound like you would be someone who has experienced that simply by observing how you connect with people on here.

Talking here and talking in reality are entirely different though. I genuinely cannot ever remember having a lengthy conversation with anyone face-to-face in my life, but that does'nt mean that i haven't observed others doing it. For example, if I went out to a pub (only in the past; never anymore), I could sit without speaking just listenting to the people I'm with talking about all sorts of things.

I do have one amazing feat though: I talked to a girl for 8 hours straight on the phone once. I hadmet her through a friend the previous night (it was actually New Year's Eve), we exchanged numbers, she called, and then we didn't stop talking until the following morning 8 hours later.

Wow! 8 hours?

So what happened, are you still really good friends? Two hours on the telephone has been my max but it was high drama (hence the need to talk for 2 hours)

On msn I have chatted for 3 hours with a good friend (not sure if msn can count?)

As for the pub, yes long conversations are often the case when alcohol is involved but normally no one remembers them the next day I guess!

I used to have a lot of internet-based friendships with people out of state.
My friend V and I could be on the phone for 12+ hours talking... we also used to fall asleep on the phone together. We were adorable.

I frame the term suits to mean corporate people that wear... suits... Lol.

I'm not great in bars... I tend to drink too much, though...
I have a secretly underlying alcohol problem... I stopped drinking a few months ago, so no reason to go to the bar anymore.
I never talked to people though... I'd just get really drunk and go home feeling sad no one talked to me. Lol.
Pathetic existence, really.

So true... I can't really talk at length with anyone except my boyfriend and my mom in real life.

Not pathetic, SmileXx, but maybe room for improvement. A good way to look at things i as follows: If you're genuinely happy with the way you're living your life, then by all maens continue living that way. If you're not, then make the relevant changes here and there to improve things.

topaz, that girl who i talked to on the phone for 8 hours is no longer in my life. I think you mightn't believe the story of what happened after that phone conversation either. It involves a lot of cheating, vomitting on my lap, two stays in a psychiatric hospital, two attempted suicides, and an actual suicide (not her (or me, obviously)). When I tel people the exact story, it's like I'm talking about a movie, and not my actual life.

It's good you can talk to your boyfriend. I used to talk to my ex.husband a lot but then when our relationship went bad he kind of threw a lot of it in my face. So, now, I kind of keep my problems to myself.

Yeah, I'd super like to "hear" this as well.

I wasn't kosher with it... which is why I stopped drinking... along with the nightmares I seem to get when drunk... I feel boring now, though. I don't drink, I don't go out... I just sit at home and smoke pot, mostly... I'm hoping that when my friend gets here that she drags me from the house more often, or at least comes over and does things with me.

My bf won't take that. He insists on knowing if I'm okay at all times, and if not what the hell is wrong with me.
He's so good to me!!!
