I have media addiction

Postby thejan » Fri Aug 14, 2015 8:45 pm

I know it is not good for me.
I only sit around all day and play computer or watch tv-series on watchever or read comics online or skim through forums. Or "do" social messenging. Sometimes i go out to buy stuff to eat. I excessively read fanfictions. I write fanfictions. The time i have over i use to gather news, information etc etc on the internet.

I don't know what else to do. Nothing else is fun. I don't want to do anything else than what i do now. But it also is not really fun anymore.
I sleep less. I trade in sleep for more screentime. I eat unhealthy food. I seldom cook something for myself anymore. I don't clean up the house.

I have no idea what to do. I don't even know where to go with my problem. If i go to a drug addiction center i think they will just laugh at me. I don't know what I should do to get the computer out of my head.

I already dream of computer games.

I have no idea what to do. I have no idea what i should do instead.
I have tried so many times to cut my computer time. It never worked.
When i try to go one day without computer time, i flip out. I just can't. I don't know what to do.

I wish someone would wave a wand and i am suddenly interested in other things, have hobbies or friends. I mean, like someone would wave their wand and i would somehow be able to enjoy other things too.

Please help me.
Dx: Bipolar 2. BDP+HPD. Pathological Gaming.

It takes a long time for a tree to grow.

If it helps at all .. I definitely don't think you are the only one out there who feels this way! Your post suggests to me that you don't have many other hobbies, or socialise very much in the 'real world' with friends. Maybe set small goals for yourself on a daily basis to engage in something non-screen related. Turn your phone/computer/TV off and go for a walk, write, even get an adult colouring book and do that for a while. Another good idea may be signing yourself up for a class, it could be anything! Photography, exercise, even a seminar as a good way to do new things and meet new people! Don't be scared to experiment with different things, you may find yourself starting to look forward to the time you spend doing these after a while. Start small but don't give up, the beginning is always the hardest!
